While commiserating with those who lost loved ones in the recent tornadoes that ravaged much ofAlabama, President Obama urged that we not overlook the positives of this tragic event. Every structure that was damaged needs repairsthat means jobs. Every piece of personal property that was destroyed will need replacingthat means jobs. Every injury that needs tending, every body that needs buryingmeans jobs. So, in a way, these storms may be a blessing in disguise for the regions economy.
On top of this, there will be ripple effects that will be felt throughout the nation as the spending on repairs and purchases of materials and supplies trickles into the stream of commerce, the President added and likened the event to the economic stimulus of World War that brought America out of the Great Depression.
Austan Goolsbee, the chairman of the Presidents Council of Economic Advisers seconded Obamas remarks and blamed the anemic 1.8% economic growth for the most recent quarter on insufficient government spending. It is essential that individuals and businesses caution in the face of economic uncertainty be offset by governments boldness. Concerns about cost and return-on-investment that intimidate the private sector can be brushed aside by government. If disaster and destruction are what it takes to get Congress to loosen the purse strings then, indeed, these tornadoes are a gift from heaven.

If he hasn’t said this yet, he probably will!
I agree. This place is in a feeding frenzy.
I've been fooled by this author a number of times. :-)
He has caught me a time or two. If he ever changes his FR name, I predict many will be pwn3d.
:)
LOL -- John has been entrapping people with his wicked satire for quite some time.
It is the REASONABLENESS of it that makes it so effective!
Don't feel bad -- I have been roped in a few times when I forgot to look at the source. Now, if my jaw drops, I look for his signature.
What is sad is that more often than not it is not John, but REAL!
I hit it exactly! 5 out of the next 11 :)
One of your best (and that is saying a lot)
What an idiot!!! If this is a great way to get jobs, hey, let’s just start blowing up all the cities. Then there’ll be plenty of jobs. Now there’s an idea.....NOT
While I know you wrote this as satire, I assume he actually thought of that because I did. Let me clarify, I didn’t look at it as a blessing at all, but did think that maybe the mexicans in Texas would all haul azz toward Alabama to rebuild their houses and our schools might have a chance for a year or two without the illegals dragging us down.
Never cared for those front wheel drive Cadillacs myself. Ugly looking brutes in my opine.
Almost...LOL
At first I was WHAT !!! then I saw the byline and knew I was snookered once again.
... but it does sound so like something he would say.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
Moron.
Absolute Moron.
Broken Window fallacy.
We have an intellectual 9 year old in charge of the nation.
You got me.
But it’s believable.
He IS that stupid.
about 350 people died in the tornadoes
In our town a little 3 month old baby
thousands of homes lost though the states
towns destroyed
Why did you post this junk ???
slow news day ???
We’re fooled because it sounds so much like him, in the way the Onion sounds identical to the NYT.
You’re slipping John. You forgot to tie in human induced global warming.
Thanks for the ping, John.
I feel sorry for the victims of these tornados. First they had to endure destruction of their homes and loss of lives. Then they had to endure Obama.
