Calling higher prices a key incentive for conserving, President Obama told an audience of 500 employees at the Gamesa Technology Corp., a wind turbine manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania, that we need to get used to higher gas prices for the sake of our environment.
There is no gain without at least a little pain, the President argued. Paying a few dollars more at the pump will encourage people to cut back on unnecessary trips and use public transit when they have to travel. If were going to save the planet we all have to make sacrifices.
As an example of what a person could do, the President cited the fact that I work from a home office. Im not driving to work, burning hydrocarbons, adding to traffic congestion and air pollution. And when I find I do have to go out I never drive alone. I always carpool with a couple of bodyguards. If others would just do the same even if only for one or two days a week wed make a significant contribution to solving our environmental problems. So, just think of higher fuel prices as kind of a stick to help persuade more people to make the changes in their behavior that are required to clean the air.
Of course, the upside for you here at Gamesa is that when people cant afford the high cost of fossil fuels theyll be buying your products, Obama pointed out. Thatll mean more jobs and more profits for you.
Meanwhile, back in Washington, Republicans warned that high energy prices could lead to a double dip recession. Senator John Cornyn (R-Tex) reminded the President that higher prices for energy means businesses will have to make cuts elsewheremaybe hire fewer workers or lay off some they already employ. If consumers have to pay more for gas theyll have less to spend on other things. The businesses that sell these other things will have lower revenues with which to employ people. This can only make a weak economy worse.

The current surge in gas prices is not due to crude oil supply or prices. It is due to refinery supply as refineries shift from winter formula to summer formula.
The funny thing is that of the 40 some odd formulas imposed by the EPA on specific local areas, there is no scientfic rhyme or reason to any of them. The approved formula is driven by political and bureaucratic decisions, not science.
The EPA could, with a straight face, say “Any of the approved formulas can be used anywhere until unemployment hits 4%” and the price would drop over 30 cents a gallon immediately and probably over 40 cents a gallon mid-term.
Barrack “Peanut Boy” Obama.
Priceless parody. You are the best, hands down.
What an Idiot. Does he not understand that higher gas prices at the pump effect just about everything we buy?
We need to impeach Obama before he makes us all destitute.
What good is gun ownership if an administration can treat the American public like this and get away with it? “Put up with it and stop complaining’’ Oh yeah? Keep it up Barry. Keep this shit up and see how long you last.
Satire aside, I’m willing to pay a few more bucks at the pump if it means retiring Obama.
This guy is sounding more and more like Jimmy Carter in the 70s.
Carter’s attempt to get Americans to live with fuel shortages, gas lines, and higher energy costs, led to his defeat in 1980. It was losing tactic then, and it’s even more-so, now.
The fact that Obama is now doing precisely the same thing as Carter did, is proof positive that liberals never learn from history.
Just like Carter telling us we need to have our standard of living go down for the good of society !
As inflation causes America to flounder economically, so does the financial stability of the rest of the world. If we are buying less sweaters from Taiwan, people will starve who no longer make sweaters. This green fantasy world on the unicorn farm is going to cause a world wide mess.
