Complete title: Interior Secretary Says White House Opposes Drilling in Arctic Because It Will Not Lead to Energy Independence
VIDEO 2:09 minutes
(CNSNews.com) - When asked why the Obama administration opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) given the rising cost of gasoline, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told CNSNews.com that the drill, baby, drill program is not going to lead the United States to energy independence.
We dont believe that you need to drill everywhere and we dont believe that the 'drill, baby, drill' program is the way thats going to get us to the energy independence that we need for America or that will power our economy and thats why the President has been so clear from day one and we in the Department of Interior have been so clear that what we need to do is need to have a robust energy program that includes a number of different sources of energy and while yes, we are pushing forward with oil and gas development both offshore and onshore which was the subject of much of the hearing today, were also moving forward with renewable energy, he told CNSNews.com after testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee about his Departments FY2012 budget.
The President has said we are supporting nuclear, were support other clean air energy forms and at the end of the day, this is a place where there is hope that perhaps some of the Republicans in the House would come together and say that we can move forward with energy legislation that moves us into this new energy future.
Salazar was also asked what the White House is saying about drilling in the Gulf.
What I say is what the White House would say and that is that we are moving forward with an effort to stand up oil and gas drilling in the deep oceans of the gulf and are doing it in a safe and orderly way and thats reflected in the budget request that we were defending for the President today, he said.
Exactly what price should oil be? And, while we're at it, what temperature is the earth supposed to be.
Had those four thousand wells not been punched, the price would be higher than it is.
It works like this:
Their “feel good” “greenism” just can’t trump the fact that people hate high gas prices more than they like feeling good about themselves for “saving the erf”.
What do you mean, “the law of supply and demand”?
WE write the laws around HERE!
Roflol
Drilling in Alaska, and offshore California, and offshore Louisiana, puts royalties and tax money into American tax bases. It pays wages to American workers, pays profits to American contractors and investors, instead of paying taxes and royalties to some other country’s treasury and putting some other country’s people to work.
If we had been drilling for all the years Democrats and environmentalists blocked drilling, there would be plenty of oil right now, and we could easily be energy independent, with oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear and even costly wind farms. Democrats are liars.
That's good news. Considering that the application has only been pending since 2007. It only took 3 years. Bush should have approved it, but I guess he only had 1 year to do it. Obama should have approved it 2 years ago.
But maybe this means they will start moving on all the other pending applications.
Right, Mr. B. for the last 10-20 years, we should have been busting our butts developing pebble bed technology and selling it.
Now, we will be lucky to heat our homes and turn on our lights.
The energy policy impediments of the Left just makes me angry. They are illogical, self destructive and infantile.
If we don’t do something soon (and it may already be too late) we are going to find ourselves in a spiral down in a vicious circle caused by the collapse of industry and the economy, exacerbated by the lack of usable energy at ANY price.
Our own government in power is setting us up to fail. It is my opinion it is not unintentional.
Were is that article informing the USA that if drilling occurred within ANWR and offshore of Alaska. Alaska itself would become the worlds 8th largest producer.
Okay no Alaska would not allow energy independence. Ken Salazaar, is no American, he is a Communist fascist Swine.
In American we need another Joe McCarthy. Yeah that one from WI eventually got a little power hungry, maybe the power struggle would balance out DC.
I’ll vote for another Joe McCarthy, he was a great American.
>How many nuclear plants has Obama approved?<
He thinks nuclear plants are okay.
But only in other countries, preferably islamic ones.
Gas just tipped to $4.09 per gal regular where I live.
Will we survive to see the 2012 elections??
I fully expect them to not be built at all.
It doesn’t really even matter if they ARE actually built. See “Shoreham” the Long Island Nuke plant. It was built, fired up and then never provided a single volt to anyone and is now mothballed.
“We can not have nirvana, so we will refuse to do something that will help the problems as they are right now”.
Does this person actually understand WHAT he has admitted to doing?
These ideological radicals can’t have their dream come true so they will force the rest of us to suffer.
Children, with a childish attitude run this country now.
Idiot ... it is not about INDEPENDANCE, its about less DEPENDANCE.
I hear you but let’s do both!
This is equivalent to the illogic that “global warming” causes more snowstorms.
