No state is good to move to in preparation for hard times unless you have a job to go to there or are self sufficient.

I live in Tampa. I recently met a family (3 generations) of Jamaicans. They have their own home in a modest neighborhood with an adjacent vacant lot.

Grandma is on SS and medicare. Mama is on disability. Papa is working a blue collar job with benefits.

But what really impressed me is the farming they were doing in their back yard. Many tropical fruit trees, mango's, papaya, avocado, pineapple...and vegetables. They gave me some tasty green onions.

I was also very impressed with the fishing skills of papa. He has Tampa Bay salt water within easy reach. He was fishing for relaxation and the satisfaction of free food.

believe it or not, the FAR north end of California.

If you go toward the coast up there...there's nothin'. Well, except fish in the rivers and game in the woods. And pot.

Texas will be full of Freepers & Conservatives, from the looks of this thread! As soon as my son can transfer there, that is where we will be heading too!

The problem is many of us can’t SELL our homes to get to those great states. Mine has been on the market for a year and a half. :(

I don’t think the state matters as much as whether you are in the city or out in the country and how prepared you are as an individual.

I live in Pennsylvania flyover country. Our county is not doing too badly. We are 60 miles from Pittsburgh. Lots of farmland. Good schools. Large university. Very patriotic.
We are now, officially, a red state.
Plus, we in Pa can use all the conservatives we can get - to get rid of that loon - Bob Casey Jr! - in the next election!

I’ll be heading to Upstate NY to my 6 million acre backyard known as the Adirondacks

It’s too far and cold for the NYC pansy liberals to find and close enough that if I really needed something I could make it into Canada

Unfortunately the south including Texas are not exactly safe, the liberals have done a good job at pitting the races at each other to the point where if society does break down the races are going to turn on each other (Liberal whites are going to be the 1st victims and deservedly so), so you don’t want to be anywhere that’s too diverse.

The Northern Tier agricultural/ranching states will be the most stable. Some have oil and gas resources which help. States such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, both Dakotas, Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Iowa, Colorado. Those would be the best states. Full of boring Nordic Scandinavians and Germans and other relatively sober types. Meth users could be a problem when the SHTF

But if oil/energy skyrockets Southern states will have their own advantages in that at least you won’t freeze to death
