Bill Maher says most Americans are stupid for believing in religion and the Bible. Appearing on the O’Reilly Factor yesterday for the second night in a row (in what was some kind of Bill O’Reilly-provided showcase for Maher’s shockingly provocative views), Maher disdainfully branded the majority of the American people as unsophisticated morons because, essentially, the US is a predominantly Christian country where people read the Bible, go to church, and actually have the non-European tradition of believing in a higher power.

Same here, but O'Reilly could have made a bigger fool out of him on his Wednesday show. When maher made the comment about everyone should pay enough to help the poor, O'Reilly should have asked him how much he had donated to various charity organizations.

I have often wondered why people like Maher and Hitchens and the rest spend so much of their time and energy attacking and trying to tear down something that they think is foolish and irrelevant. If they really felt that way, they'd smile and so about their business and leave people who believed otherwise alone. The fact that it consumes them so leads me to think that they really think, deep down, that maybe, just maybe, there's something to it, and they must squash that niggling doubt with overheated bluster and bravado. In their heart of hearts, they're really scared.

No, there had to be millions of evolutions, since there are millions of species, both male and female in most cases. Actually I didn't have a clue who maher was, until those remarks on oh really's show.

If I were their psychiatrist, I would suggest to them that the real question, the real issue they need to dig deep inside and resolve, is "what is it about Yeshua that you hate so much...and why?"

I know this was a flippant statement, meant in jest..but it really caught my attention. A young man I know committed suicide yesterday. He had recently begun calling himself an atheist. Needless to say, his family's grief is compounded by the horror he had thrown away eternal life. I have to believe your statement about mental illness is what caused him to act as he did, and I pray he will be forgiven.
