Video: Republican Alabama gubernatorial candidate Tim James (and son of previous Gov. Fob James) vows in a new campaign ad that if he's elected, he'll give the state driver's license exam only in English, as a cost-saving measure. "This is Alabama; we speak English," he says in the ad. "If you want to live here, learn it."

Welfare was evil. We all paid cash for medical if we needed it. We had insurance and registered vehicles or used public transit. We were raised to be honest.

Well, my friend, that is no longer the case.

Want proof?

Simply step into the Emergency Room of St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, California on any day.

Step up to the Nurses Admitting station and ask her the straightforwad question: "How are all these people paying for Hospital Services"

What you will find out, is that a majority of them rely on the Charity of the Hospital, and the Hospial relies on the State to reimburse them for their "Charity".

Furthermore, we've had a ton of hospitals, and Emergency Rooms, shut down in California because of this same problem.

And finally, it is estimated that the costs for Health Care, Free Education for their major under-performing children, and all other public services for Illegals are between 10-14 billion per year.

You do the math.

I knew a number of immigrants (migrant farm workers mostly) from the 70’s - you are right. They were hard working honest people for the most part, looking for a brighter future. Of course, with any group, there are always a few bad “apples”. One of them married my oldest sister (without her knowing he had a wife and children in Mexico) in order to expedite his legal immigration status. There were other, more significant problems with this guy, but I won’t bore you with those details.

The Constitution is written in English. But since there isn't anything written in black and white about an official language , I'm not going to put words in their mouth. I'm not one of these, "penumbras, and umbras, an emanations," guys. I go by what the plain ol' English says.

Thank you.
One of the best days of my life: becoming a Citizen!
Well, that was tempered by an IRS pamphlet they handed out that day that said Income Taxes were voluntary... LOL, wish I had kept it!!!

Last time I check, our Founding Fathers never said anything about an official language

Actually, they did, although it did not make it into the Constitution. The competing language btw was German, since the colonies had as mmany German speakers as English speakers.

This is a worksheet from the State of New York outlining the requirements for getting a Commercial Drivers' License. CDL's are issued under the authority of the Federal governemnt and they set the requirements for them. Note that it requires that CDL holders know English. If they can do that why can't they require it for their own DL's?

Zeus forbid you ever hear somebody from Staten Island (NY) try to speak “English.”

I told a clerk at a store the other day that I was offended that all the signs were in English and Spanish, but not in German, as well. She took the bait, and said “That’s probably because there are no Germans here.” I then gave her a quick history lesson, and reminded her that THE dominant immigrant group to the US for many years was German, but that they had enough respect for the United States to learn its language and adopt its culture and assimilate, and they had the burning desire to BECOME Americans. Quite unlike the current crop of “immigrants” from south of the border.

...Ummmm... that's only because you don't border Mexico...

Apparently you've never been through Northeast Alabama. Huge population of Mexicans that work on chicken farms and in processing plants.

Last time I visited my hometown in 2008, most of the stores downtown had signs ONLY in Spanish.

Yeah, you’re right about becoming a citizen, but I’m talking about all visitors, tourists, students, businessmen, guest workers. They should all be required to speak English before being allowed in.

Noob that is absolutely ridiculous.

No proof is needed as far as I’m concerned. I work in public education.

Having traveled (business and pleasure) to many other countries, I think that a measure of tourism and business travel may allow for non-English speaking activity, as long as most of the burden in not on the hosting country.

Hotels and main attractions can allow for that with multi-language staff; most countries already do that.

PROBLEM: illegally traveling into an foreign-speaking country, with the EXPECTATION that you will be provided with translators, driver’s test, medical questionnaires, employment applications, and who knows what else, in your native language. NOW, that is INSANE and an insult to all that either were born in-country or made the effort to learn the native language of that country.

So, that is what this Government has allowed to happen.

“...I then gave her a quick history lesson...”
Awesome, good for you... that is the problem, there is no ‘history’ anymore, is just the present and American Idle, that is it. (Yes, I said ‘Idle’ because it fits better).
