Among the peeves I keep as pets, chief is my loathing of the Easter Bunny. There are many reasons to hate the Bunny. I will get into why in particular the Bunny, but first to some other pressing business.
Why is it that religious holidays require mascots to make them palatable to secularists who otherwise wouldnt give a fig about the celebration? While some mascots are cool in their own right, most add nothing and typically detract from the holidays expressed purpose.
Take the leprechaun. Actually, dont take the leprechaun. I am pretty sure that taking a leprechaun is bad luck. But the leprechaun as a symbol of St. Paddys Day? A hard-drinking short guy consumed with greed is not a good mascot for a celebration of a great saints feast day. A good mascot for Christopher Hitchens Day perhaps, but not for St. Patricks Day...

Easter Bunny is a ptarmigan murdering sodomite that masterminded the Great Ptarmigan/Rabbit War.
My father, God rest his soul, would provide us with rabbit meat every Easter. Pies, stews and stir-fried by Mom in the most creative ways, we liked the gamey flavor but knew it wasn’t chicken.
Don't mess with the Easter Bunny, his peeps will take away your major award.
You’ve done it now.
If you look at the origins of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, etc you'll see they have zero to do with making the holidays "palatable to secularists".
And, this question could be flipped. Why did the early celebrations of Christmas borrow so much from existing pagan holidays & traditions?
Rot in Hell Easter Bunny!
“Why is it that religious holidays require mascots to make them palatable to secularists who otherwise wouldnt give a fig about the celebration?”
Why is it that hack writers can’t think of anything to write about that has any actual validity or interest? Is this crap just to fill an empty page?
My best friend as a kid was French (his parents were both born there but he was born here) and lived across the street from us.They used to keep a bunny rabbit in a cage in the garage. One day, just before Easter,he said "we're gonna have him/her for Easter Dinner this year".Well yours truly,12 years old,was stunned speechless when I heard that.
I found out much later that the French eat rabbits.
Yikes!
1. Fudgesicle. Where is the fudge?
2. Brownie girl scouts. When do we get the brownies?
3. And Easter bunny/eggs. How could my parents have foisted such a sham on me. Pretty eggs should taste good, not like dirty hard boiled eggs. Instead they are just plain eggs with color on them. The shells are just awful to eat. And by association the bunny must go.
Cook! Wheeeeeeeeeeere's my haaaaaaasenpfefer!
(okay, I know it's German, but that's still Euro...)
Rabbit is one of the most plentiful meats in early spring. The supply of pork, poultry and beef slaughtered in the fall is beginning to run low.
I have no problems with eating rabbits. I just hate them because they oppress and kill ptarmigans.
Is that what that is?? Yikes! The Germans too???
Please don't tell me that the Irish eat them as well.I may have to hang myself in embarrassment. ;-)
I can’t wait for the movie.
