I too got the Census letter informing me that I would be getting a Census letter next week. The waste and futility of participating, as well as the perversion of the constitutional purpose of the Census has me down, but Scott Johnson over at Power Line and Mark Krikorian over at The Corner have a bright idea:

He has become an American by being received in the broad lap of our great Alma Mater. Here individuals of all races are melted into a new race of man, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world. Americans are the western pilgrims."

It's a truthful answer but at the same time is a way for ordinary citizens to express their rejection of unconstitutional racial classification schemes. In fact, "American" was the plurality ancestry selection for respondents to the 2000 census in four states and several hundred counties.
If they sent one letter to every address, how many unnecessary workers were paid by the government and at what cost.
I am checking 9 “other”, and writing in American. And I am enclosing this short sentence in with my census.
“I believe it is unconstitutional to be racially classified. Until we succeed in building the needed wall of separation between Race and State, I am claiming to be: AN AMERICAN.”
My wife does not agree with me but I plan on adding our showers to the count of toilets in our home if that happens to be one of the questions. /sarc
I don't want them to have an accurate count on anything but the number of people in the household.
There has to be some reason to keep those ACORN workers on the payroll. And just think...Obama will have saved a million jobs as a result! /sarc
The warning on mine said if it is not filled out, “your community may not get its fair share.” It’s the carrot-stick thing.

THIS IS PRETTY BASIC ADVICE;
Be Cautious about giving info to Census Workers, by the BBB.
With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.
The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist? The BBB offers the following advice:
If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions. However, you should never invite anyone you don’t know into your home.
Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information. Do not give your Social Security number, credit card number or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it for the U.S. Census.
REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS.
While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as a salary range, YOU DON’T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION. The Census Bureau will not ask for Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit donations. Anyone asking for that information is NOT with the Census Bureau.
AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK WITH ACORN ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION.. No Acorn worker should approach you saying he/she is with the Census Bureau.
Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person at home. However, the Census Bureau will NOT contact you by E-mail, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the Census.
Never click on a link or open any attachments in an E-mail that are supposedly from the U.S.Census Bureau.

I just checked my mail and the warning notice was in the mail box. What a freaking waste of tax payers dollars to warn us about another piece of mail is no the way! The lower portion refers people to their website in five different languages other than English!

Good advice. I don’t think you are even constitutionally required to give your name or phone number, just the count.

There's excellent information in this thread. The Constitution calls for an ``enumeration'' and nothing more.
This is what ticks me off about many immigrants, legal and illegal - they bring/cling to their old hatreds of "the other guy". This is especially true of the Muslims and other Middle Easterners. I remember when the Khoumeni took over Iran and the Irani students disrupted campuses by holding rallies praising this guy and bashing America. Same with the Muzzies and their anti-Jewish demonstrations.
When you emigrate to this country, you leave all that stuff at the shoreline. Granted it was a movie, but there was a great scene in "Anything Can Happen" where the latest immigrant gives a toast during dinner: "When I look around, and see a Turk sitting beside a Greek, I think 'Anything can happen' in this country."
“American” is not a valid qualifier of the noun “race”, but “human” is.
My ancestors have been in this land since the 1600’s. Just how many generations does it take before I can say I am of American heritage?
Check other and write in “Caucasian” or “Mongoloid” or “Negroid,” as is the case. That is as precise and accurate as you can get.
