There is or was a backup site at one time so one could chat or post when FR went down. Might have been a yahoo group or something. The site may be down but rest assured Freepers are still out there. The Yahoo site is here.
I've set up an alternate forum which is easier to navigate than Yahoo here. (note my tagline)

Bookmark the link in Joe's post on # 30. The site is not much "chat" because of its convoluted layout. I only go there when FR is down to see if it's my computer or a general global disaster.
It's the worst site I've ever experienced for navigation....however for my purpose just mentioned, it's invaluable.
