> She wil be ground into dust for quitting.< It didn't seem to hurt Clinton. _____________________________________________________ I got this from http://www.arktimes.com about a week ago. ____________________________________________________ Did he really say that?

Stephens Media coverage of Sarah Palin's visit includes Democratic Party spokesman Gabe Holmstrom's poke at Palin for quitting her job as governor to be a highly paid celebrity.

Arkansas Republican Chairman Doyle Webb's non-sequitur response:

Webb said he believes Palin “has a greater calling than serving the people of Alaska: She has a call to serve the people of the nation, and she’s serving it well.”

Webb added, “I would remind Gabe that Gov. Clinton did resign as governor of Arkansas. He may have forgotten that.”

So. Resigning to become president of the U.S. is equivalent to quitting your job to hit the rubber chicken circuit to give overpriced, cliche-filled speeches. Thanks for that insight, Doyle. Still waiting for a callback on your recent pay bump.

“What kind of person takes 50 plus years to learn that abortion is the killing of an innocent child?”

Abortion has been legal for 50 years?

Politicians get elected to higher office and move on to that higher position. Sarah quit to do what? What job did she go to? To what higher office was she elected?

Here's where you fall right into liberal-think-talk. She became a full-time mother and wife. Now liberals think being a full-time mother and wife is falling off a cliff compared to holding office. Conservatives see it as a step up and I'm sure she will paint it as such.

You really need to work on your liberal talking points. Very weak.

I still think a lot of Palin’s popularity is a skin deep thing that has to do with her looks, charisma, charm...and am not arguing that she won’t win the nomination. My point is that those things do not make a leader. (Obama comes to mind...but I honestly think she beats him on all three of the things I listed.)

I believe Sarah has charisma, the right point-of-view and leadership ability. I believe she needs to increase her policy wonk skills and I'll give her until next January to do it.

As long as I can drive my pickup.

LOL.

I had open heart surgery a few years back. Yea, the guilty dawg comment was stupid. My apologies.

Thanks and you take care of yourself.

Reagan's political record as governor of CA includes signing into law a permissive abortion law, in 1967. He reportedly regretted the act later, and I doubt that he was "pro-abortion" even in signing it. Nevertheless...

Reagan was pro life. Reagan made a big boo-boo when he signed the 1967 law that I believe contained a big loophole about "the health of the mother".

Your rhetorical question doesn't logically follow from anything that I said.

“I contend that in two years many very solid conservatives will favor other primary contenders.

Based compeletely on nothing but your wish. Right?”

Wrong. My contention, as I said.

Don’t twist or change my words, and expect me to agree.

"The contracts For the Pipe line, Sorry!"

Not trying to be a wise arse but what contracts? I really want a pipeline project. I own a small business in Wasilla. Regardless of who gets credit I would like to see good paying jobs and money rolling into the state. Can you tell me who got a contract for the pipeline to be built?

The policy wonk thing is an area we are in total agreement. I realize she had some daunting challenges with the lawsuits in Alaska, but I just wished she would have stayed on as Gov. and studied. If she wanted to run, lay low for a while and study hard. Make a ‘comeback’ of sorts.

The risk she takes by this huge splash is the short attention span and the fickle nature of the average American voter. She is everywhere right now, responding to stupid TV shows like ‘The Family Guy’ on Facebook, which only makes her look less of a statesman, not more. The Fox gig isn’t that great either. She seems rather guarded and stilted.

I am not a Palin hater by any means. But I am looking past the support of FR and even the Republican primaries. I simply think that the ‘rats and the media will destroy her in ways that we haven’t imagined. And the constant drumbeat will be her resignation.

So that's NOT what you wish ("in two years many very solid conservatives will favor other primary contenders")?

For Palin quitting, perhaps you should blame the Leftist scum or that lunatic the Falafel Lady who bombarded her with bogus allegation after bogus allegation of ethic violations. She had to deal with each and every one of them. The result being that she had less time to do her job as gov. Also, at the time, she had to pay her own legal bills, which meant that her family was half a million dollars in hock, while Sarah and Todd together made only 200,000 at the time, they even had to take a second mortgage out on their house, if I’m not mistaken. I suspect that Sarah feared her family would be driven to bankrupcy. Are your friends aware of that?

I’ve heard many reasons offered, none make sense.

“If she wants it then she’ll have to fight her way past people who want the presidency as bad as she does and who will rip her to shreds in order to get it. And that’s just the primaries.”

They have already tried that. Mitt Romney couldn’t rip a spinach salad to shreds.

Who is your candidate? You can’t beat somebody with nobody.

The thesis of this thread was stated as:

“Former Governor Sarah Palin real reason for quitting as governor was she had done everything she promised to do. Job well done. Time to move on and make sure the things you did in Alaska stayed in place or are achieved and not stopped by Washington.”

Again, your post at least gives a reasonable explanation for her resignation. If, however the quote above is used by the Palin camp as a serious defense (and I have seen this used over and over), she will not be considered a serious candidate.

Surrogates like playgirl models and cartoonists? Attacking her kids?

What a brilliant political path the Democrats have in their future.

These PDS folks are anklebiters, nothing more. if you ask any on them who they favor, they slink away. They don’t want to put up their candidate because they don’t want to be laughed off this forum.

all America is going to see is a quitter...and Americans don't like quitters.

SOME Americans will think that way, because some Americans will NEVER like her because of the issues she represents. I've discovered, however, that when the issues surrounding her resignation are explained, folks then don't seem to have a problem with her decision.

I have stated twice, now three times that I think Jim DeMint is a statesman and has the potential to lead this country during these times. If you want to laugh at me, him, and his credentials, be my guest.

Instead of calling folks anklebiters because they have a differing opinion, how about a comment on the laughable post that started this conversation? Do you actually think Sarah Palin will pass the smell test with “she resigned because she accomplished everything she set out to do?”
