Chase Bank Credit Card - Something Strange, Definitely Terrible Service!!!

have a Master Card issued through Chase Bank. Twice in the past week it was denied. I called today to determine why.

After contacting the Customer Service Department, I was told I had a past due balance.

No problem, said I, I will pay the balance online. The Customer Service Representative said that he could make the payment for me by phone. I declined his offer. I told him I would prefer to do it myself online.

The Customer Service Representative repeated his offer and I repeated my refusal.

I then went to make the payment online. Only to be told that a payment was already made.

Since I did not authorize one, this was disconcerting. I called Customer Service ...

I would suggest not having a past due balance.

I’m confused. How could they make a payment for you without your bank account information??

Making an unauthorized payment for you is unsettling enough, but what's worse is this:

If they had the ability to avoid a late payment FOR you, why didn't they do it sooner to avoid the "late charge?"

Hmmmmmmmm?

This kind of stuff is happening a lot.
Chase, Citi, and Wells Fargo seem to be the big offenders.

It’s a good idea to go to those sites and remove any default accounts they may use for those “one time payments”.

As long as your bank is not the not card issuer you should be able to get these payments reversed.

The guy should contact the police about the fraud.

I, being the cynic I am- would question where the money was actually going, and what is really going on. Sounds like a convuluted mess to me.

Write a letter to your state’s attorney general’s office with a copy to Chase. Probably will not get you anywhere but will put them on notice that people will refuse to stand for the deceit.

Not their responsibility, It’s the card holder’s and frankly. Personal accountability anyone?

If you've paid by check in the past they probably retained the routing numbers. That's all they need to draft the account. More and more places are no longer submitting the physical check, just the account number and a request for money. It is amazing how unsecure that whole system is.

Now you’ve made them mad... the will cut your credit limit to $1 over your current limit... the day before next credit. OVER LIMIT FEE.

I have one card that did that and I still have no reason why... I REFUSE TO PAY YOU ANYTHING until that fee is REMOVED..They stopped calling the house when I keep a STADIUM horn by the phone just for them.

The bank does not have the right to just draft a payment from his account. He did not authorize it. The fact that a payment is late is a separate point. What if the bank “taking” a payment from him causes a domino affect? Rent check bounces, late fees, NSF fees? He may have CHOSEN not to pay Chase at that time for his own reasons and cash flow situation. Does not give Chase the right to just take the money.

It’s usually better to “push” online from the bank your checking account is at, from THEIR website, than the creditor themselves doing a “pull” from your account.

You have more control.

“....STADIUM horn by the phone just for them.”

LOL!!! Nice. They are usually wearing a headset so that’s a good one.

The moral of this story is be very careful in your dealings with Chase Bank Master Card. Needless to say I will pay off the balance and cancel the card.

No, the moral of this story is to pay your bills on time. Otherwise you VOLUNTARILY give control of your finances to others.

If this deadbeat would care to read his contract, he might find that Chase has the right to Setoff. That means that if he is delinquent on a payment, then Chase can transfer the payment from his checking account.

Funny, but rude. The people who will be deafened by your rudeness are just people trying to work a job and get a paycheck.

When the economy is such as it is, I can’t fault anyone for working ANYWHERE.

Technically that right only exists if his checking account is also at Chase.

Otherwise, they’d need to file a judgement against him, which won’t happen until he’s around 90 days late most likely.

Whenever you call a bank customer service line there is a recording saying that the call will be recorded. Tell them you want to hear the recording.
