Let us detour for a moment from the recent death of Senator Ted Kennedy and the continuing debate over health care reform to consider a bizarre little happening in the Twin Cities that occurred last week. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America convened for an annual meeting at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Among the items on its agenda was a vote to decide whether to allow non-celibate homosexuals to be ordained as pastors. On Wednesday, the day of the vote, a freak storm unexpectedly swept through town without warning, bringing a tornado that damaged both the convention center and the neighboring Central Lutheran Church. The cross atop the church was ripped off. Some half-joked that Jesus did it. Later in the week, at least one Minnesota pastor openly declared the storm had been a divine warning. That sentiment was ridiculed by liberals as ludicrous. Strangely, there was no similar criticism of lesbian minister Lauren Wendt's assertion that the two-thirds supermajority, which passed the resolution allowing actively gay pastors by a single vote, was "divine intervention" and "the Holy Spirit at work."
Regardless of whether the storm or the supermajority-by-one had divine origins, the question I have for affected Lutherans is... really? I mean, really? I am not a Lutheran. This is not my church. I have no stake in the issue aside from morbid curiosity and the potential ripple effect through the larger Christian community. But... really?
Here's the question I have, if you are one of these Lutherans who voted to allow actively homosexual pastors, or if you agree with the vote; would you have passed a similar resolution to allow raging alcoholics to pastor your congregations? How about avowed unrepentant kleptomaniacs? Blatant womanizing adulterers? Active serial killers?

the world has lost its way when gay pervert couples like this todd & warner houston (how sick they use the same name like proper woman taking mans name).
they put their problems into the church like a disease, thed lutherans must ALL answer to god soon for this sin.
LCMS Lutheran here. My quip was, “You know you’re in trouble when even Gaia says you aren’t Christian anymore.”
It’s too frustrating, and saddening to put into words. My heart breaks when I hear news like this - that it seems there is no longer any right and wrong in the world. If you can’t turn to the church for guidance, where do you go?
From what I hear, the tornado hit the convention center at the exact time the vote was scheduled to take place.
Scripture maybe?
“...come out from among them..” St. Paul
There are so many weird things about the ELCA’s decision. For instance, two homosexuals could live together without being married, but if a man and woman were shacking up in the rectory, all hades would break loose. Maybe at this point, the ELCA congregation would be happy that they were heterosexual. How any Christian can remain within the ELCA is beyond me.
In fact two Pennsylvania Synods did select raging alcoholics as their Bishop.

Just spoke face to face this morning with some who were present at the Assembly: The Tornado touched down during a "Bible study" led by a revisionist woman, about 20 minutes prior to the final debate.
The Tornado struck Central Lutheran where at that moment the Gaysbian "Goodsoil" group was conducing a practice for its abominable "liturgy" which did take place later that evening.
I knew this was coming and that is why I left the ELCA over a year ago. They need to rename it... the ALCA... Apostate Lutheran Congregation of America.
What took you so long? We left seventeen years ago. :) It’s a tragedy. I grew up in the former ALC. Too bad they can’t just simply disband the ELCA and let former congregations go back to what they were before the fateful merger.

They cannot.
It's not a Christian Church anymore its a house of feelgoodism and a society of liberal mutual mental masturbation.
Im Christian, and Im an ELCA member. My wife is in seminary, to be an ELCA pastor, and women cant be pastors in a Missouri Synod or Wisconsin Synod church. I think that I should support her career and be a member of the same church. I hope that, this year, at least 2/3 of ELCA members, who oppose ordaining gays and gay marriage, will leave the ELCA. Ill decrease my donations, to our church.
I was a member of ELCA churches, 1989-2008. In Jan. 2008, I decided to join a LCMS church, because I agree with them, about gays. In March 08, my dad, a retired ELCA pastor who joined an LCMS church, told me that the ELCA taskforce on sexuality recommended that the ELCA not ordain gays or hold gay weddings. I was thrilled by that news, and, last Nov., I joined an ELCA church. Soon, I might regret that decision.
The tornado left the cross on top of Central Lutheran’s steeple upside down. So I believe that the Holy Apostle Peter accompanied God in providing the warning. It was a very loving warning, since it showed that God had the power to utterly destroy the Convention Center, Central Lutheran, or both. But He (and St Peter, the Leader of the Apostles) produced a strong sign—with no loss of life—instead.
The gaysbian Goodsoil group produced a YouTube video of their cracked “liturgy”. The first section was a report on the storm by a local TV station. The second section was a highly edited version of the “liturgy”, which left out most of the totally “gay” (except for the entrance with those frou-frou streamers) and ultra-heretical parts. Most of the congregation seemed to be aging lesbians.
When the Gospel was read—about Jesus asleep in the boat in the storm—the assembled congregation laughed. They just laughed off God’s warning, rather than repenting, or at least quaking with fear!!!! Typical gaysbian behavior!
The main part showed Barbara Lundblad’s sermon. Lundblad—who has done more to ruin the ELCA than perhaps any other one person—essentially called for people to stay in the ELCA whether they agree with the “gay” resolutions or not. This went along with the theme of the whole video, a false appeal to the more conservative or moderate ELCA members by attempting to show that gaysbian ELCA members are “just Lutherans”.
But the tornado was a warning to ordinary ELCA members as well as to the gaysbians. Go home to the Church founded by Christ and by St. Peter and the other Apostles—the Orthodox Church. For the “house” of the ELCA is collapsing around you, and is being overthrown by storms from within and without!
