A Fourth indicator of a Stroke
email

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue!

I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!

STROKE:
Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R.

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word.
I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics).  She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps! Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *
Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *
Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(I.e. It is sunny out today.)

R
*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke ------ Stick out your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other
, that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part.  Will you?

Apparently this has been known for some time. Some years ago I awoke in the morning and discovered I had drooled all over my pillow. When I looked in the mirror it was obvious that the left side of my face had dropped lower than the right side. When I got to my doctor he immediately told me to stick out my tongue. I stuck it straight out and he immediately said “Bell's palsy”.

I still don't know what causes Bell's palsy, but was quite happy to learn it wasn't a stroke.

What is a good source for DMSO?

Cayenne tincture (or cayenne powder dissolved in warm water, or even a healthy dose of hot sauce) is known to stop a stroke or a heart attack while it is happening. It dilates the blood vessels and increases circulation.

Large animal or farm supply store. Ignore the labeling on the bottle that says it’s only for equine use. It’s the same stuff, only cheaper.

We buy ours at Atwoods, a chain with stores located in the South Central States (OK, KS, AR, MO, TX).

BTW, our D. O. has told us that if either my wife or I has a stroke, we’re to call him ASAP. He will then rush to wherever we are to start a DMSO IV. Amazingly, in this day and age, he still makes house calls when necessary.

Under what name is it available at vet supply places? ... I ask because I have found that the same meds we humans must have scripts for can often be found ‘OTC’ at a vet supply location like the Farmer’s Coop. [My cousin who had a series of strokes got a scabies infection, and I bought ‘Happy Jack’ dog dip concentrate—active ingredients exactly the same as in human permethrin applications—and diluted it to prescription concentration—to treat his condition, for $15 instead of $120 [... mixing a shampoo/body wash adding it to a common body wash liquid soap, and a lotion adding it to a cvommon squirt bottle loation with aloe, and finally a bedding application by adding it to warm water in a spray bottle and soaking the bed while washing all bedding such as mattress cover, etc. and letting them air dry while sheets, etc. were dried on hot in electric drier].

As I said in my post #33,

“Trauma is different - when it comes to putting things back in place after an accident, doctors do it well.”

Source...

Some health food stores have DMSO in one form or another. PBS Animal Health, hq in Massillon, Ohio, has it on the shelf, 99.9%. DMSO is a liquid, and a powerful solvent for many things. DMSO has been used by athletes and their trainers for years. It is also available from some internet sources.

TruthSetsUFree, yes, cayenne is very good for dialating blood vessels, and we recommend it to people with circulation problems.

MHGinTN, yes, the stuff for animals is ok for human use. MSM, which is chemically a cousin to DMSO, and is good for joint pain, is available in animal/vet supply places like PBS Animal Health at very reasonable prices. A lot of good things are available that way.

I learned of the FAST acronym on an epidose of “House M.D.”! I’d gotten the STR one in an e-mail. Not sure which would be easier to remember, but they’re similar in what observations to make.

FAST is what is being used by the NHS in Britain in the TV adverts I think FAST is best because it emphasis that you need to be fast.

As one poster said if you get the patient to the hospital in the 3 hour window they can administer a drug to clear the clot.
