Is the beef or pork you buy from the U.S.A., Mexico or Canada?

Posted on 02/07/2009 9:26:08 PM PST by Sun

When I went to the supermarket recently I was surprised to see in small print that the beef was "Product of U.S.A., Mexico and Canada," and the pork said "Product of U.S.A. or Canada," but it didn't say which country.

While I buy nonfood items from Mexico, I don't buy produce because people have become sick or even died from their produce, probably because of the water. Now the cows drink the same water, so why would I want to buy beef produced in Mexico.

We wouldn’t have to worry about rising prices if they would stop paying our farmers to NOT grow their crops. Then the prices would come back down, plus the government would save some money.

I did save quite a bit. I think it was less than $3.00 a lb.

” I think it was less than $3.00 a lb.”

Excellent price, and better meat as well.

Well, the thing is, its a win, win. With the economy so bad, it would help a lot of people to reduce the cost and it would save the government tons of money!

Then I see that Obama is pre-empting ‘House’ tonight. The only show I care about on Monday nights and he has to replace it! :(

I commiserate with your friend, the rules are set up to keep the small farmers out of meat production.
To think that someone can ship meat thousands of miles and be able to charge less then someone producing it locally is proof of this.
I am not sure of the inspection process they have to go through to import the meat, but if I was your friend I would be asking the local small farms program for assistance.

This is WA State, the system to kill off the small farms is well established. They (the government) hate domestic animals and rural development of all kinds. In one county in this state, they require farmers to map the cow pies on the property and estimate the size and weight and turn it in to the county.

This has been driving me crazy for a couple of months now. Kroger, Walmart, Sams & Tom Thumb in Texas all have Canada/USA/Mexico on the labels of the beef and pork. I've started going to Whole Foods and Sprouts for my meat and vegetables - that's another one that drives me crazy - vegs & fruits from other countries. I have to pay more at these stores but I don't want to eat the chemicals that they use in Mexico that have been banned by the US in my food.

I was able to get some ground beef at a much higher price at Tom Thumb last week from the butcher counter. When I asked him to confirm it was from the US he gave me attitude. Right after I made my purchase another man came up to the counter and asked the same question - I thought his head was going to come off.

That’s why they don’t want to tell you where it’s from...they might not be able to sell the stuff.

Grow your own vegetables and stop worrying so much. The huge food poisoning out break that we had two years ago was traced to an organic farm in California, which also owned the dairy farm next door. If you know anything about dairy farms, you know about the spreading of the “fertilizer” and you can imagine how the spinach got contaminated. If they don’t use chemical fertilizers, they use natural fertilizers.

I’m going to start getting meat from a meat market, even though it’s out of my way. Can’t they at least sell Made in America food?

Meats and fish are one area where I have ZERO problems finding items from the USA. Had some free range boar Italian Sausage the other day from free ranging swine from upstate New York.

Unfortunately, your average Joe Schmoe restaurant (to say nothing of Super Wal Mart) ply us with Indonesian shrimp and beef from god knows where...

I’m not buying beef at restaurants any more, and I love beef subs. I’m not afraid of Indonesian shrimp, but I am afraid of Chinese shrimp - they raise it in sewage, according to Laura Ingraham, so I don’t order shrimp at my favorite Chinese restaurant any more either.
