There is a biography of Barry Soetoro 's Occidental College days. It states that when Barry Soetoro was 18-19 he attended school as BARRY SOETORO. And it wasn't until he met a girl by the name of REGINA that was the first to start calling him Barack. See:
http://abagond.wordpress.com/2008/04/11/obama-at-occidental-college/
The importance of this is that it clearly shows that Barry was using his Indonesian name, and of course, his Indonesian passport.
The International Herald Tribute (The Global issue of the New York Times)
also states:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/02/08/america/obama.php
"Nearly three decades ago, Barack Obama stood out on the small campus of Occidental College in Los Angeles for his eloquence, intellect and activism against apartheid in South Africa. But Obama, then known as Barry, also joined in the party scene."
The LA Times also claims below that Barry was the choice of names that Barry Soetoro used when he first arrived from Hawaii to Occidental:
http://articles.latimes.com/2007/jan/29/local/me-oxy29
"Memories of 1980 at Occidental Colleges Haines Hall have the standard fragments of the era: stereos blasting the B-52s through the dorm, pot-fueled bull sessions about the revival of draft registration, late-night cramming for economics exams.
"That otherwise private nostalgia took on public significance this month when a former Haines Hall resident from Hawaii known at the time as Barry announced that he was forming an exploratory committee to run for president of the United States."
Even Occidental College states that Newsweek reported that Barry entered their college as BARRY SOETORO under his Indonesian passport and NOT as Barack Obama.
It was at Occidental where he stopped being called Barry and became Barack Obama, Newsweek pointed out in its account of Obamas formative years that featured his black-and-white freshman photo on the cover. It was when I made a conscious decision: I want to grow up, he told the magazine.
One of Barry Soetoro's college buddies says this of our Indonesian student:
http://www.verdugomonthly.com/article.php?id=382&IssueNum=32
"Tom Moyes remembers the first time he heard the name Barack Obama. It was in the fall of 2004, after the electrifying speech Obama delivered at the 2004 Democratic Convention. That was the oration, of course, which introduced the young would-be Illinois Senator to America and inspired an instant following not only in the U.S. but around the world. Moyes had missed the speech because he was on an extended vacation in New Zealand at the time. So I pick up this newspaper, says Moyes, who grew up in San Gabriel and graduated from Occidental College in Eagle Rock, and it has this huge article about this guy Barack Obama. And it says he had gone to Occidental at the same time I was there. And I said to myself, Theres no way. Id never heard the name Barack; Im thinking it must be a mistake. So I call a friend I went to Oxy with, Ken Sulzer, and I say, Ken, Im down here in New Zealand and theres this article about some guy named Barack that went to college with us. Who is that?! I said, Thats Barry, man, says Sulzer, using the nickname Obama went by during his youth, the guy with the big afro who lived across the hall from me in the dorm.
It is clear that the students at Occidental did not know Barry Soetoro by the name of OBAMA. Instead he was using his Indonesian name and passport. This story cleverly hides the fact that the confusion came not from the first name Barry or Barack, but because of the LAST NAME Soetoro vs. Obama.
Okay so why did Barry suddenly change his name from Barry Soetoro to Barack Obama a year after he entered school? (I don't believe that REGINA story above.) It was simple. His mother and adopted dad got divorced in August of 1980. So naturally, when he entered Occidental in 1979 he used his Indonesian name...then immediately after his mom's divorce he desired to revert back to his birth name of Barack Obama.
See divorce records at:

OK, so a few people recall him from Occidental. But why does nobody from Columbia (at the time he allegedly went there) seem to have known him?
I’m sure many do.. but Ayers and company are keeping their mouth shut for now.. :->
Nobody from Columbia wants to admit they knew him...
Who are these non-believers who Obama is referring to?
Thanks.
You are avoiding reality....
The REALITY is he is teemed "black" by 95% of American's. And probably most of the world.
Although...LOL!!...many of the world would view him first as a Muslim...secondly as a black man. Isn't that just wonderful......./s
The nonbelievers are the ones that don’t believe his Birth Certificate is real?
::rim shot::
One person named William Araiza mentioned that he had taken either a political science course or seminar with Jr. I found his name on a Columbia U alumni message board based in TX but googling his name I don’t know which William Arzaiza he is. (I don’t think he is the lawyer)
We do know that he was known as Barry Obama when he attended Punahou which is where his nickname of Barry O’Bomber came from.
Tell a lie often enough...

There is no credible evidence within the links of this post that suggest Obama used the last name Soetoro on a passport.
those that truly want an answer to his eligibility.
The first sentence may be true; however, it seems unwise in this case to reject out of hand a possibility merely because it has no credible basis.
Seemingly, the only relevant fact we are allowed to know is that O has made a substantial effort to seal, or otherwise avoid disclosing relevant documents.
When it is obvious that factual evidence has been intentionally and skillfully (?) removed from the public realm - almost certainly with the intent to deceive - it becomes necessary to speculate, to brainstorm, to reach out and thoroughly examine any information that could lead to a fact or a part of the answer.
Our inquiry should not be limited to a cold calculation of hard facts, such facts are not yet available.
What are those referred to in the second sentence to do in order to obtain an answer?
On January 8, 2009 not single politician, Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, honored his or her oath of office to defend the constitution.
The highest court in the land has turned a deaf ear. Arguably, subject to what is happening in the lower courts, we are left to our own devices.
(Excuse me, I screwed up post #50)

Doesn’t matter anymore, if it ever did.

What is the phrase - nattering negativity nabobs?
Why be so negative? Do you want to be proven right? Wouldn’t you rather be proven wrong? If people give up a fight just because it’s difficult and the odds seem against them, history would be waay different. In fact, we’d have been part of the British Empire for a coupld hundred extra years.
They are either paid, blackmailed, or on the 0-team.
Pa mom said she personally knew two people who knew him while he was at Columbia but I haven’t heard back from her.
Sad but true.

Obama’s mom and Soetoro -Ng went back to Indonesia and Obama went to Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he led an anti-apartheid demonstration and wrestled with his white/black/Hawaiian identity. After two years, he transferred to Columbia University in New York.

Kenneth Sulzer, who lived in the same dormitory as Obama, remembered long discussions about politics, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and a possible reinstitution of the draft. Obama was “relatively quiet. But when he spoke, his opinion was respected,” said Sulzer, now an attorney in Los Angeles.
The two took classes together and Sulzer was struck by the clarity and conciseness of Obama’s mind. “I would take down everything the professor said and dissect it 12 times,” Sulzer said. “Barry printed his notes. And it was very short. Probably just one long paragraph.”
Another classmate, Amiekoleh “Kim” Kimbrew of Los Angeles, recalled Obama striding across campus in flip-flops.
“He was very popular,” she said. “There were rumors that he was a Hawaiian prince. ... He was kind of flirty, but he wasn’t a player.”
Some took Obama’s professed radicalism as posturing. “I was impressed by the sharpness of Barry’s intellect and, like many, his effortless charm,” said classmate Mark Dery, a journalism professor at New York University. But “I also harbored an instinctual suspicion of his ... suave demeanor.”
Somewhere along the line Barry, the name of the boy from Waikiki, gave way to Barack, the name he inherited from his Kenyan father.
For the most part, Obama’s commitment to social activism was limited to coffeehouse talk. But near the end of his time at Occidental, he got caught up in protests against apartheid in South Africa, helping plan a large campus rally demanding that the college divest investments there.
He opened the rally in a bit of street theater, he recalls in his memoir, speaking for a couple of minutes until two white students in paramilitary dress dragged him away in midsentence. That cameo so impressed Rebecca Rivera, another rally participant, that she wondered why he hadn’t been more politically active on campus. She made a mental note at the time to “try to get him involved.”
Obama spent just two years at Occidental. He said in a recent interview that he had begun to weary of the parties and fretted about a lackadaisical approach to his studies. He grew more introspective and serious. His mother’s warnings were beginning to take hold.

When Barry Became Barack
It didn’t happen overnight. But in college, the young Barry took to being called by his formal name. What this evolution tells us about him.
I'd love nothing more than to see Zero get exposed for the fraud that he is....
But you have folks that are swerving in and out of kooksville on this subject.....And IMO, this subject is going no where.
Know when to hold them, know when to fold them, FRiend. Sorry.......but that's how I perceive it.
fwiw-
That is true; but royalties are still being paid to whomever owns the Obama image.
