Flint mother Latrica Ryan of 10 looks to community for help
by RoNeisha Mullen | The Flint Journal
FLINT, Michigan -- With 10 kids and no vehicle, Latrica Ryan is used to juggling.
Going to a movie or out for dinner is a like plotting a major tactical undertaking. Not that such outings happen that much.
"It would really be nice if I could take my kids where they needed to go, instead of having to find them a ride," Ryan said. "And when we do go somewhere, I have to pay four or five people (for gas) to get us all there.
"I have booster seats and car seats. It's a lot."
Ryan, is a 29-year-old single stay-at-home mother of five sons and five daughters, who range in age from 2 months to 13 years.

He explained to me that at that time, there were literally thousands (yes, thousands!) of black men in Baltimore who's sole purpose in life was to keep a certain number of women pregnant. Why would he do this?
Well, each woman would receive a welfare check for each child. The woman in turn, would give the "father" a kickback out of that for "servicing" her and keeping her pregnant.
In it's wisdom, the government in Baltimore decreed that all welfare checks would end if a man were found to be living in the home, and random spot checks were made to be sure that no man was living there.
In short, the government broke up the black family, and now has had decades of welfare mothers and children on it's payroll. There is no end in sight!
I would think that she and her 10 kids could fit on a metro bus quite easily and get within walking distance of most any theater or restaurant.
It’s a very difficult thing to deal with, but a simple one to explain to my children (who I adopted as a sibling set as a single mother). We have taken all shame out of having babies outside of marriage. Certain church groups / Christian organizations get a sense of goodwill for contributing to the needs of families like these. The article itself is written to draw out our sympathies for these precious children, and to make it look like this mother is doing a good job in sacrificing her life to raise them.
The problem is — that the full truth is being left out of the piece. Someone on this thread says that she is teaching her 10 children this is acceptable behavior — and they will teach THEIR 150 children (more or less) the same things. Most of them will learn the art of manipulating the system so they will never know the thrill of independence or self-discipline.
Teaching girls to treat their bodies in respectful ways, to keep their legs closed, and to save themselves for one man to marry someday, is looked upon as provincial and unrealistic. I wish more of us who DO keep sex within marriage only would come out of the shadows and proclaim its virtue more than we do, because of social intimidation (even within the church body). Instead — we have Britney Spears and Oprah and Angelina as models for girls and women to emulate. Sad....
Exactly.

Oh. And if you do post a month old article... be sure it was not already posted.
I think there has also been some organization and or laws passed that prevents white parents from adopting black babies (or makes it really difficult to adopt one unless the baby has special needs).
Not true here in CA. I know of several white couples who have adopted black infants/young children. Maybe other states have different laws — but here, there aren’t those kinds of distinctions. I know — I adopted four siblings as a single mother. (I made sure everyone knew I was NOT homosexual, since all the other single parents in my certification classes WERE homosexual).
Not in 15 to twenty years.
Latrice, please hold on for a very few more days. When barry arrives, you’re exactly his idea of spreading the wealth and at only 29, you’ve got a whole lot more spreading ahead of you.
Get off. YOu watch too many movies. Do you believe everything you see in the movies. Michael Moore must be your god. No more Oxygen TV for you.
A legally freed child is not at risk from the courts.
Not a foster child, not a friend’s kid that you are watching but a child with rights terminated by both parents. Happens all the time.
That is what they are telling you . I have four black children
But on the other hand, whites who try to adopt black kids can run into a lot of trouble from activists who insist that only black families should be allowed to do so. That phenomenon is also very real.
Stupid social worker syndrome is alive in many different forms. On the whole in the states if you want to adopt a baby from a differnt race, As long as it is not 1/8 native or less, and if the birth parents are not married, onece parental rights are terminated the adoption is bulletproof.
I’m telling you what the Child & Family Services people in my parents’ county told my parents. Glad it’s different for you - when did you adopt your children? My impression is things have gotten harder in the last few years, where social workers just don’t want to put black children with white families because they “can’t help them understand what it really means to be African American”.
The assumption that my parents’ foster child would more impacted by her unknown sperm donor’s culture than her mother that she actually lived with for two years, was sort of hard for me to fathom.
YOU âget offâ. In the United States, there really is no âlegally freed childâ who is ânot at risk from the courtsâ. All you need is one nutty judge, and you’re back in court. And once you’re in family court, black trumps white as many times as the other way around. So, why would white people adopt a black baby in the U.S. when they can adopt, say, a Chinese baby abroad? Smear white adoptive parents all you like, but lay the blame at the feet of Carol Mosley whatshername and all the liberal judges who’ve bought into black victimology for the black kids languishing in foster care.
You have been watching too many Oxygen films. lFind better things to do in your life.
