Back To School Special: What to do with Bible thumping students

Have you ever had this happen: You are minding your own business, teaching your life science course, it's early in the term. A student, on the way out after class (never at the beginning of class, rarely during class) mentions something about "carbon dating." This usually happens around the time of year you are doing an overview of the main points of the course, but before you've gotten to the "evolution module"...

The student is talking about C14 dating and how it "has problems." But you are a life science teacher and can't think of a single point in your class that you really touch on C14. Dating in the evolution section does not involve C14. This is for later time periods, more in the area of archaeology, and you know nothing about it. So you brush off the question but are left with an uneasy feeling.

Next class, probably just after class, the same student, again at a moment that gives you zero warning and usually no time to think of how to respond, mentions something about the Laws of Thermodynamics.

Listening to truth never hurt anything but the untruth.

How's the fund raising going?

Nice article on the rules of a reeducation camp-politically correct, of course.

You must very firmly indicate to the student that according to the current, standing law, intelligent design IS creationism, and creationism IS religion, and religion cannot be discussed in any way whatsoever in a science classroom without risk of breaking the law.

Such as it is, this is thoughtcrime. Atheism in schools (the taught belief system that there absolutely is no god) is also prohibited by the same Constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

The homeschooled kids I know easily defeat public shoolers in the area of evolution. They are taught what evolution is, and how evolution is not supported by science. It is fun to watch public shool evolutionists try and trap the homeschoolers in dumb, ad-hominem and straw man arguments, instead of simply arguing facts. Too bad evolution is not supported by science, or it might be a good fight.

And the statement about no discussions of religion in schools is as applicable to literary and history classes as well.

No, I haven't. I'd also hazard a guess the author hasn't, either.

Yes it si amusing to watch.

You don’t need “religion” to stump the stupid eveolutionists. Throw REAL science in their face and they stutter and react like this idiot. Instead of listening to TRUTH they try to dimiss is as a “religious” argument.

LOL!!!

Is it any wonder the U.S. is around 25th place in MATH and SCIENCE WORLDWIDE?

GEESH! They aren’t teachimg math of science anymore in the public schools. They are teaching propaganda and get all bent out of shape when challeneged.

At which point the clever student says "Are you going to have me arrested if I do?" or "Can you cite the Statute which makes it illegal for me to discuss ID in your classroom?"

Why anyone would expose their children to the liberal Government school and various agendas therein is beyond me.
Private school or home school unless you want you kids screwed up for life.

Wow, that blogger, and the readers who commented are terrified of Christians. They believe the other students won’t believe their theory if they have an honest discussion about it. They discuss ways to silence the student, and prevent questions from being asked. They even admit that they don’t know enough about what they’re teaching to be able to answer the student’s questions. Any teacher who disciplines a tenth grader for being smarter than the teacher should be fired.

The liars behind ID encourage kids to disrupt biology class by giving them the “Ten Questions to Ask Your Biology Teacher about Design”.

...these questions are mostly coming from the Answers in Genesis web site.

Which is full of lies.

The primary example in the article above is Carbon 14 dating.

Most teachers don't know much about the subject and are not the ones to answer those questions.

But some of us here know a bit more. Anybody want to try and support the nonsense on AiG in their various C14 articles?
