The Sierra Club, one of the nation's most radical environmental organizations, announced its endorsement of Senator Obama (D-Ill.) for president. The Club's executive director, Carl Pope, said, Its a no brainer. Senator McCains recent push for nuclear power and off-shore drilling sealed the deal.
Todays energy shortages and high gasoline prices are the best thing thats happened for the environment since the Carter Administration, Pope went on. People are driving less and learning to do without. Senator Obama understands the importance of this for provoking real change. He will keep prices up and push this country toward a more natural way of life.
With the price of gasoline over $4 per gallon, urban automobile traffic has declined by one percent over the last year. This small change was hailed by Pope as a start. In Europe, gasoline costs $10 a gallon, Pope observed. People there drive less, stay home more and live modestly. If we can achieve the same thing here well be well on our way to the greener world we all want.
In related news, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) denounced McCains energy proposals saying they do nothing to break Americans of their addiction to mobility. We have a window-of-opportunity to wean Americans off their proclivity to come and go as they please, said DNC Chairman Howard Dean. High fuel prices provide the incentive for people to change their lifestyle. McCain would squander this opportunity by taking measures designed to lower the cost of senseless and excessive travel. It is shameful pandering to irresponsible individualism that contravenes the collective welfare of the whole.

I tell ya, Comrade Juan McNuts is gonna take this as a guide to policy. Too close to the truth.
I have had to stay home all day! I could not even ride my lawnmower (raining)! Even the mail was later than usual, they are driving slower on the rural routes.
No way.
First Al Gore and now Sierra Club?
Wow! When would these surprises end?
BREAKING NEWS!
Recent studies financed by the EPA and the Pentagan show conclusively that Bears prefer to evacuate their bowels in forested areas.
Well, winter comes here up north...and that’s my food money that will pay for gas at the pump and utilities. Get a second job?? I’m 65...and quite weak now.
Sometimes it's real. I was fooled on the story concerning Senator Dodd wanting the government to monitor all e-mail. I thought it was fake, but that one was actually real. Just when you think Semmens is all satire he does one that is actually real.
Now there’s a catchy campaign slogan for Obama, “He will keep prices up”
My bits are semi-satire/semi-news. The events are real. I add speculation on the left’s inner thoughts behind these events.
