I'm Going To Flip Flop: Vote Duncan Hunter
Take a Stand Against Liberals ^ | 1/2/08 | Jenn of the Jungle

Posted on 01/02/2008 9:41:32 AM PST by pissant

All right, after all this time I finally endorsed Fred Thompson as president on my Monday show. And now I'm going to flip flop.

I kept hearing....."I like Duncan Hunter, but he doesn't stand a chance."

But then if that's who I REALLY want and so many others all say the same damn thing, and we all vote for him, then dammit, HE DOES STAND A CHANCE!

So, now, in writing, I OFFICIALLY ENDORSE DUNCAN HUNTER!

Why do I endorse Duncan? Let me count the ways:

1)He believes judges "have a responsibility to strictly interpret our nation’s laws and not legislate from the bench with their own political or social agenda."

2)Wants to do away with stupid "hate crime" laws."I have always voted against this type of legislation because I firmly believe that the use of violence against any innocent person is wrong, regardless of that individuals race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation."

3)Duncan wants YOU to keep your guns, so you can protect Jenn from bad boys! " We must vigorously defend against all attempts to chip away at the Second Amendment. You know as well as I do that there is one thing criminals prefer over any other: unarmed victims."

4)No pandering on tax cuts,"I do not support efforts to identify segments of our society that are more deserving of a tax cut over another and I believe political stereotyping in this area hinders the goal of providing efficient tax relief. It is important to create a federal tax policy that is both fair to American taxpayers while, at the same time, ensuring that our nation meets its financial obligations."

5)On Education,"I believe we can educate students more effectively by returning school curriculum prerogatives to the states, local communities and, most importantly, to the family."

6)DUMPING THE ANCHOR BABY DEBACLE:"I oppose summarily bestowing citizenship on people who have crossed our borders illegally. Therefore, I cosponsored H.R. 1940, the Birthright Citizenship Act, which grants automatic citizenship only to those who have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen." Amen!

7) Bite me China: "Further, America’s one-way-street trade relationship with China and other nations has reduced manufacturing jobs severely in the U.S. I would change the one-way-street into a two-way-street by putting the same charges on foreign goods that they put on ours."

There are many more reasons, he's Presidential, he's served, he's a good man.....

VOTE DUNCAN HUNTER 2008!

If Fred tanks, I hope he does get out fast so that his people will have time to switch gears and get on Hunter’s bandwagon.

Yeah, don't support the guy who is treading water, support the guy who is already 6 feet under.

Hunter is a young 59. Fred is an old 65. This is Fred's shot. Hunter could run in any of the next 3 more Presidential elections if he can build a core of support. I'm just talking as a guy that really respects Hunter and wants to see him succeed. I also want Fred to succeed in this election cycle, more out of disgust with the other "major" contenders than out of respect for Thompson.

Fred hasn’t exactly inspired confidence. He should have gotten in early on and made it clear that he wanted to be president.

Duncan Hunter would make the best prez...

China will use their wealth to become an international competitor to the USA. They are a fascist nation now. Our apparent benefits from trade will evaporate in the first international incident between our countries. Our cities may evaporate too.

And just how does China stealing 95% of our software and intellectual property, cyber-attacking our Pentagon and NSA, devaluing their currency to undercut US manufacturing, arming to the teeth with a yearly 250 billion trade surplus courtesy of our trade policy, and requiring technology “offsets” for trade benefit you? The answer, it doesn’t.

Who was speaking about theft or cyber-attacks? If that's what Hunter meant he sure had a curious way of saying it. What I read is that he wants to "put the same charges on foreign goods that they put on ours." If he advocates putting a charge, a.k.a. tax, on something I am now buying that comes from China and is not now taxed, then he is for increasing taxes and/or punishing me. How else can I read this? I really don't give a d@mn if the Chinese want to tax their people on their imports. Most conservatives I know do not advocate using the power to tax to alter people's behavior.

It depends on your primary or caucus system. Duncan is, and always has been, my first choice. However, if he can't get 15% in any particular Iowa caucus, then you need a second choice.

For me, that second choice is Fred Thompson.

You would also be wise to have a third choice in case Fred can't clear 15%. Mitt Romney is my third choice. Not because he's great, but because he's so much better than the amnesty cheerleading trio of Rudy, McCain and Huckabee.

Now is the time to iron out differences and decide amongst ourselves who is the best standard bearer for the conservative flag.

Fred is "ok" where Duncan is "outstanding". After the nomination, arguing about this stuff is moot. If we don't argue about it now, we'll lose out later when the "populist" RINO's hijack the nomination.

This country can't afford more RINO's/Democrat-lite.

Romney's no better about amnesty, trust me. He's just willing to lie about his current position.

China is cheating on trade in alot more ways than devaluing their currency. Hunter has addressed China from every angle over a great number of years. That this author chose to showcase a particular subcategory on the trade issue was not my doing. But they also illegally require offsets, and go unpunished. If you do not know what that is, look it up. They steal our intellectual porperty to the tune of 10s of billions of dollars in lost sales, yet go unpunished. They use hi tech purchases from us for military purposes, which is strictly forbidden by US law, yet go unpunished. They use bribes regularly, which goes unpunished. They mislabel products intentionally, which goes unpunished.

I’m glad you were able to buy your toaster for $12 instead of $20, but your $12 purchase goes right into the pockets of the PLA.

Look. I wasn't in favor of granting "Most Favored Nation Status," to the Chinese. I wasn't even in favor of selling out the Nationalists. But the fact is that those things have been done. I do not fear economic competition from the Communist Chinese anymore than I feared it from the Japanese. If they want to export their wealth to us at below market prices, I say, "Here I am. And BTW I'll take a 50 inch plasma for a hundred bucks." As for the Chinese vaporizing our cities, I guess I find them less aggressive than you do. They've mostly kept their military inside their own borders for the last 50 years. Besides it's not smart to kill your customers.

I wrote this yesterday, on another thread.

*******************

Having watched and listened to Russert interview both Romney and Huckabee, I am struck by how disappointed I am by both of these men. The more I see and hear them, the less I believe that either one is the kind of person I want to see as President. Both Russert interviews left me with a strong feeling that neither of these men are doing anything more than a sales presentation, more focused on beating the competition than declaring principles and a plan of action. I would not be enthusiastic about voting for either one - but I WOULD, if it came to that in November. Better than the opposition party? Yes, but neither one seems to be more than casually (and conveniently) committed to the principles that I believe in.

McCain, love him or not, sticks to his guns and his principles, even when wrong - and he has been wrong too many times, on too many really important things like tax cuts, campaign finance reform, and immigration, for me to support him.

Thompson is from my state, and will almost certainly win here on Feb 5. I do not agree with him on every point, but his stands on immigration and the border, Iraq, and taking the fight to our enemies instead of trying to hide behind our porous borders are all in his favor for me. Also, I DO like the fact that he does not seek the Presidency for personal prestige and satisfaction, which is clearly the aim of so many of the candidates on both sides.

But Fred DOES have some baggage, although nothing that the Democrats can use against him.

First on the list is McCain-Feingold, which he supported, worked for, and nearly co-sponsored. True, he later disavowed some portions of it, but he failed to recognize the danger to free speech that it presented.

Second, his failure to support a Human Life Amendment. I do appreciate that overturning Roe v. Wade is a necessary first step, but his insistence that life should be a state issue is misguided. Also, I was very disappointed with his failure to inform himself about the Terry Schiavo case. This was an extraordinary episode in America, and a failure of the judicial branch to protect the rights of the severely disabled. The right to life (for the innocent) is either a gift from G_d or a privilege granted by the state - and I once thought that issue was settled.

Duncan Hunter is the candidate closest to my views. He has demonstrated his commitment to the Country by his military service, (as has McCain, of course) and has shown firmness of principle, as well as a number of legislative accomplishments that I find compelling. I will support him in the Tennessee primary (if he is still a candidate) but happily support Thompson thereafter - IF he survives that long.

The Republican Senate and House Campaign Committees will never again see a dime of my money. They have betrtayed us with faux conservatives far too many times to be worthy of anything but contempt.

And in November, I will vote for any Republican EXCEPT Ron Paul.

Sino-Indian war 1962. China - Vietnam 1979. They are not as peaceful as you think and they now are gaining the technology to extend their supply lines more effectively. And it's also not so smart of us to enrich our only major potential rival on the international stage right now.

How long has it been since the Chinese ceased their anti-US propaganda? We've got billions of folks who are daily advocating "Death to America," none of them Chinese. I really think we need to worry about attacks from elsewhere, and so do the Chinese.

And, of course, none of this addresses the point I made about taxation.
