Recently Newt Gingrich told an interviewer that there was a 4 to 1 chance that he would "not" run for President! ( link1 ) GOP Presidential candidates have been openly criticizing and snubbing the President. ( link2) Faced with a 40% drop in small donor contributions, the "old RNC" actually fired all of its phone solicitors ( link3 ) showing how absolutely divorced from reality they, the RNC, are. Putting all the blame on the poor phone solicitors and none on themselves! What a collection of losers. And over all GOP fundraising is down and sagging behind the dem's. ( link4 ).
All of the above are "road signs" to some in the GOP. Including myself. At a rapid clip now, the GOP candidates and their staff's and advisors, especially, are realizing that the President, K. Rove, Mel Martinez - "the wrecking crew" are absolutely trashing "our" GOP and ruining our chances for 2008 over this insane McCain/Kennedy/Bush immigration bill.
Its decision time for those GOP'rs who still believe we can win in '08. Some sort of "Shadow RNC" is (or needs to) evolve complete with a Shadow RNC Chair - possibly Newt Gingrich? Newt seems to be falling into that position naturally. As if he were destined for it. I believe he is. He seems to be falling away from presidential candidacy. His demeanor lately in TV and radio interviews is that of a coach on the sidelines during a desperate, must-win game. Not the demeanor of a candidate. He has a brilliant mind with a steady flowing stream of great ideas. But too much personal baggage to actually vie for the Presidency. However, the Republican Party can not afford to waste or discard such talent. We need him to continue to "coach" us through this difficult time.
And with the "old RNC" falling short in the fundraising department, what's the point? Individual candidates can have their own internet and other fundraising these days. And regarding the U.S. Chamber and Club for Growth, they'd best fall in line with the "New Republican Party" or they'll be left out in the cold. And if they throw their support toward the Dem's - oh brother. Wouldn't want to be in their shoes after 1/20/09 if they do that.
I say the Shadow RNC is, indeed, evolving. Maybe unbeknownst to the Candidates and others within the higher tiers of the party but, nonetheless, it is forming out of sheer desperate necessity. Like the old west wagon trains that used to naturally form up in a circle when being attacked. And it is necessary to separate from the President and his "wrecking crew". Or, come January 09, to be with him in Crawford clearing brush because there will be nothing else to do. And do you think he'll care? All he cares about now is doing what he wants. He has little regard for our Republican Party or a GOP victory in '08. Its not a priority for him. (originally posted on my blog 6/19/07) Darvin Dowdy
Welcome to FR.
IBTZ!
I made it!
I just hope Carl Rove keeps running the universe so I can sleep at night.
I got a fundraiser call yesterday. After the usual qualifier questions, she asked for money. I told her I am in “punishment mode” until Republicans grow a pair. She hung up so fast I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the moment.
Strictly my opinion, but I think that the Rovian folks think that a Hilliary candidacy will wash away the bitterness remaining from the Shamnesty and Big Govt Conservatism that we have witnessed the last 3 years or so.
As far as a “shadow RNC” it is an interesting thought, but republicans (us) tend to like order in things, and a Deaniac type mirror of the RNC seems like a longshot.
I do notice that Newt has been blasting off on the current crop of candidates, but he has been silent about Mel Martinez.
I like the cut of yer jib nooby, but I fear that you may be cat food. Hope not, but fecal material takes place.
I've come to believe that at least some of our 06 losses were engineered by the Bush/Rove/Gillespie RNC to give Bush the "Congress he could worth with" in re shoving amnesty down America's throat.
Now all the bases are no longer belong to Bush. And he put his own war policies in jeopardy by undermining his political support--which was crazy--how many out there are rethinking support for Iraq? How much of the support for Iraq was based on faith and trust in the leadership?
Bush puts Mexico's interests far, far above those of the US. I no longer trust him or his Rovian National Committee.
3rd TFH alert today..
I just went to your blog on townhall and appreciate your posting here, too.
Wonder why you didn’t mention your horse, Dunkin Hunter? (perhaps you did And I don’t remember).
At any rate, welcome to FR Friend....Bob
I saw pollster Frank Luntz on the news this morning with a small group of voters. Luntz asked the youngest voter (a 22 year old male) what he saw as most important to him in the next presidential election.
The guy didn’t mention any candidates by name but he did run down a list of issues that fit Duncan Hunter’s position to a T.
I am the conspiracy.
Does that astroturf also come in blue? Could work well to attract supporters in Idaho.
Geographical segue *PING* ;-)
