Great. The genesis of yet another antifreep site, methinks.

I do not support Rudy for prez. Most of those who do support Rudy do so in a civil manner. A few go completely over the top and insult the positions of those Rudy needs to win over to win the nomination.

In other words, it's just like just about all other topics on FR. I think you have a misguided sense of persecution regarding your stance. I would instead suggest that your points and then let the chips fall where they may.

I know what you mean in your post, but you have to admit that by asking to have some folks "banned" from the site, you open up the possibility of many people being banned for various reasons some that we may not even agree with.

I'm really not wanting to be kicked off of FR. My only point is that after all these years so many of us are suddenly and unabashedly supporting a social liberal for President of the United States.

I love FR and have no desire to leave it. I just am not certain at all that widespread support for a social liberal is good for the Free Republic web site.

If there is room for George W. Bush supporters, there is room for Rudy supporters. If Jim was the kind of guy to kick out members for their support of "bad candidates", he would have kicked out the Bush supporters back in '98 and '99. If you will recall, Jim was pretty clear in his anti-Bush views. Back at that time, people said Bush was a cokehead, soft on the 2nd amendment, etc. plus there was still a lot of ill-will towards his father for betraying us when he raised taxes.

I think about the same percentage of Freepers mistrusted GWB back then as mistrust Rudy now.

Personally, I think they both suck.

I think that FREEPRES are discussing various candidates right now. I remember in 2000 people were saying that they wanted Colin Powell, McCain, and various other folks that they were interested in (George Bush was not even mentioned at this point then). I just think this is talk right now. I believe that in the end we will have a conservative candidate (or real close like we always have). We are real early right now and people love to talk about predictions which for the most part never actually happen. We probably don't even have the name of the person who will end up running yet.

but I support the 2nd Amendment

Why in the world would you support a gun-grabber like Rudy if this is the case?

To put in my two cents on your inquiry, though, I would hate to see the Rudy people get booted. I can't stand him and will do whatever I can to defeat him, but the fact of the matter is that he is a viable contendor for the nomination. The more we debate about him on FR, the sharper the conservative wing of the party will be in opposing him.

For years many conservatives have been desperately surveying the political landscape for another Ronald Reagan..........and there is not one in sight.

With an impatience worthy of extreme unction, the alleged hawkish but liberal Rudy is looking real good to them all of a sudden.

Kinda like Helen Thomas would look sexy and enticing to a sailor marooned on a desert isle for 20 years.

You survived the insanity that reigned during the Schiavo affair, so you should be able to make it through anything on FR.

I agree with you that Giuliani will make an excellent president, and I disagree with those who limit their top priorities in voting for a candidate to guns and abortion.

Giuliani supporters are supporing a liberal on what is supposed to be a conservative forum.

Do the math.

So, I guess you're asking if Free Republic is still a conservative forum. Good question.

Hillary Hillary Hillary! Voting for someone because they can defeat someone else accomplishes nothing if the person you vote in does not represent your values.

I can't believe that people actually think that Hillary has anything but a snowball's chance in hell of being elected. There is no way! People underestimate the Democrat good ol' boy vote and I guarantee you they will never vote for a woman for President even if she is a Democrat. I know that's awfully un-PC of me, but I know it's the truth. It would have to be a very special woman to win the Presidency and that woman has not appeared on the scene and she certainly isn't Hillary.

At LEAST 1/3rd of FR, if not more, would be saying that they 'wished he would have lost in 84' because it would have been 'good for the movement longterm' because he 'sold out his principles'. They'd be ranting 'I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party under RINO Ronald Reagan left me!' and other such nonsense.

How come the Rudyites always have to crap on Reagan to support their guy.

Very telling.

But at least it provides a break from the constant scare tactic of pulling out the bogeyman of Hillary for President if Rudy isn't the nominee.

The truth is that you're not convincing anyone to support liberal Rudy with either tactic.

I am very aware of the leftist positions Giuliani holds on many social issues. But to me he is a strong leader who is capable of defeating Hillary. I strongly disagree with those who believe that “anybody can beat Hillary”. I believe Rudy is the man. If somebody else wins the Republican nomination I’m almost sure to vote for them in order to keep Hillary out of office.

My sentiments exactly. Very well stated. Most of us have tried to posts the facts on Rudy and then we are called RINO's. We were probably Republican a long time before the people calling us RINO's and supported Ronald Reagan as well.

If you have studied Federal history, you may have noticed that the Liberal/Conservative rating of a President doesn't often affect anything related to his performance in office. The Pres is to administer programs that are funded by Congress. The Left-/Right- ness of Congress is far more meaningful. The real power is the Court system, of course, but they don't initiate much on their own and they certainly don't fund any programs. The point of this is that regardless if the Pres is a D, an R, a RINO, or any other political flavor, his personal opinions do not often surface. If this is seen as being the case, then the choice for Pres would be based on the quality of the candidate rather than his views on hot-button issues since he will have little to do with the basic decisions on illegal immigration, on abortion, on national healthcare, on war or much of anything else exscept appointments. Who will he appoint, or rather, submit to Congress for approval, to the various positions he is expected to make appointments to? Aside from that, the Pres is not expected to make a lot of suggestions unless requested.

Same old same old then. A self admited Gore Liberal Bush ran in 2000. Remember? I'd rather see Rudy deflated on debate of his platform and more important his long standing record on issues. Any canidate regardless of party should be excepted or rejected based on that. BTW I'm not pro-Rudy myself.

Kind of like the Green Bay Packers saying, "If we can't find someone as good as Brett Farve, we are not going to field a quarterback when he leaves."

I loved Reagan. But if our next presidential candidate does not stack up to the Gipper, we do our best to advance our agenda. If we don't get a touchdown, maybe we can get a few first downs.
