World to end on August 22nd
8-13-2006 The Infidel Sage

Just in case you didn't know. And I have absolutely nothing to wear. The recent disrupted London based terrorist plot seems to fit suspiciously well as far as timing is concerned or it may have all been a coincidence. The long awaited 'other shoe' has not yet dropped, but I have to admit the Dark Lords of the Shia have been making me nervous lately with their veiled threats and mutterings and the other brand of militant Islam represented by the Al Qaeda always hates to be left out as well. One never knows for sure what's going to happen and when it comes to crackpots and murderous fanatics, the crystal ball is hazy at best.
There has been a lot of speculation throughout the internet but this Infidel may be a Sage but is a hesitant prophet. Could there be something be brewing? Absolutely. Will a world war break out on Tuesday? I doubt it. But I'll top of the gas tanks just in case. More here: Opinion Journal's August 22 Does Iran have something in store? . A couple of large FReeRepublic posts here, here and here. And FrontPageMagazine's Iran's Day of Terror?, and NewsMax's Iran Hints at Aug. 22 Doomsday for Israel.
"In Islam, as in Judaism and Christianity," the professor writes, "there are certain beliefs concerning the cosmic struggle at the end of time - Gog and Magog, anti-Christ, Armageddon, and for Shiite Muslims, the long-awaited return of the Hidden Imam, ending in the final victory of the forces of good over evil, however these may be defined.
"Mr Ahmadinejad [the Iranian president] and his followers clearly believe that this time is now, and that the terminal struggle has already begun and is indeed well advanced. It may even have a date, indicated by several references by the Iranian president to giving his final answer to the US about nuclear development by August 22. This was at first reported as 'by the end of August', but Mr Ahmadinejad's statement was more precise."
Put your helmet on.
[hey, it can't hurt]....;]
I thought being from Indiana would make that confusing.
We've had cowbell references galore....;D
You know, I was in Amman for meetings over the weekend. Got back to Baghdad yesterday.
It occurs to me I should have stayed in Amman.
Much better view of the festivities from there, I think.
Unless, like you said, Mahmoud Nutjob misses. Then we'd get the good view.
Gosh, planning an apocolyptic viewing event can be a pain in the @ss. I'm glad it doesn't come around every year, like Christmas.
Or Travers' "Crash And Burn"?.....LOL!
So, what are we waiting for, 12:00 Noon in Mecca or something?
You're five hours behind GMT/Zulu time in the central time zone. GMT is 12 hours "behind" tomorrow, so tomorrow is 17 hours ahead of you at the int'l date line.
Not bad for a Monday morning -- every yard's a rice paddy, every dip a river. The fire looked worse than it was -- they were metal tanks with vents so as the oil heated up, the vents flared. If they were fiberglass, I image they'd all be gone. The oil from the collasped tank was contained in the berm. Nothing nearby but desert scrub. The fire department stayed away for the first hour and let it burn. At about 7:30 they brought in their big water trucks, hooked up the foam and went at it. I went back by their about about two hours ago and it was out. The vacuum trucks were already cleaning up the mess and taking out oil from the other tanks.
I've heard anywhere from midnight tonight, Teheran time, to sunset tomorrow.
Am I showing my age? LOL! :0)
Will that be the sound of my keyboard melting?
I've had about 6 inches of rain in the last few weeks. The Sandias are covered with mushrooms, and you couldn't start a forest fire now with 30 pounds of white phosphorus. Tijeras arroyo at the intersection was 30 feet wide and moving fast.
So they're seven and a half hours ahead of us in Teheran. So anytime after 4:30 PM EST this afternoon...
Sorry, I'm busy this afternoon. Could we pencil The End Of The World for Tuesday, next week?
How much more time do we have until 12:01 AM on 8/22 in Tehran? (....as Carly Simon's song, "Anticipation", plays in the background...lol).
Hey, I'm running out to the bank. Please don't end the world without me!
Well, since the World is ending, and all, can you take out a couple hundred bucks for me? I'll pay you back on the 23rd...

Nuts. I was looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. Oh well, it is my last day on shift anyway.
