I signed up for email alerts from our local sexual offender website several weeks ago after seeing so many stories about children being taken or killed by sexual offenders. Well....this morning I got an email notifing me that there was a registered sexual offender across the street. The website says he was charged with gross sexual conduct with a minor. We have a four year old child and I am now very uneasy living here. I can see the home this man lives in from my front window. And of course he can see ours. Our homes are directly across from one another. What would you do? The website has a message at the bottom that states that this man is to have no contact with children and that children should not be near his home/yard. Which is fine, our daughter has never been allowed to play unsupervised at anytime. We are always with her and she has never been allowed to just go to someones house without us. But there are plenty of kids who run these streets alone....without parents or supervision. Some of them are as young as two years old. This makes my stomach turn. Advice?
I would put a sign in MY yard reading "A convicted child molester lives here ----->" obviously with a sign pointing towards his house. I don't think that would be illegal.
That's a great call...
Print out the info from the official site and share with all your neighbors. They may not be aware.
My aunt researched recently released sex offenders and discovered one had moved back in with his parents NEXT DOOR to the elementary school with no one's knowledge. (He could easily watch the kids at recess, no more than 25 yards away) They had to organize all sorts of extra security.
Is this a rental house? If it is, track down the owner and check if they're okay with a perv living in their house.
I know a businessman who used to own several properties both here and at at the beach, had a successful business and was a "pillar" at his church, absolutely no evidence of perversion whatsoever.
That was until it came out that he fondled a young teen.
He pled guilty in court and narrowly avoided jail. He has since lost everything and has moved away and is now living in trailer park somewhere.
But there isn't anything wrong with handing out information about this creep to your neighbors, is there?
This is a sad situation. Suggestions needed, but this time you need to step lightly not me.
I would make copies of the alert and put them in everyones mail boxes within say a 3 block radius or more depending on how rural your area is : )
Just do it anonymous : )
If it is for informative purposes, I do not think so. Each state is different. I just know I saw a case on the news a while ago where the sex offender was able to sue his neighbors for harassment.
I called my neighbors after receiving the email and we have started a neighborhood watch for the kids. :) Thank you!
Makes you feel good to know that criminals have more rights in this country than law-abding citizens, doesn't it? /sarcasm
It isn't a rental home. These jerk is living with his mother. According to my neighbors he had a wife and had a child. Apparently he isn't around either of them now. Thank goodness. His momma was the only one who would take him in.
Sad but true!
Why not give the man the benefit of the doubt, and assume that he is a changed man. Also, contact all the people in the neighborhood with children, and make it known that he is to have no contact with children, and to always supervise their children. The man has to live somewhere, and apparently he doesn't have enough money to live on his own, so is forced to live with his mother.
If your child was sick, as this man obviously is/was, wouldn't you want to take care of him, as his mother is?
Child Molesters (assuming that is what this guy is) CAN NOT be cured. Plain and simple.
Like the sex offender who kidnapped the little girl (Jessica Lunsford)in Florida? He was living with his family, and now they are charged with obstruction of justice for aiding his escape.
You mean they never stop, until caught or dead? How do you know this?
