The oldest human viruses, including herpes, have been uncovered in 50,000-year-old Neanderthal bones - and experts could soon recreate them.
Researchers at Brazil's Federal University of São Paulo identified remnants of the herpesviruses, which causes cold sores, the sexually transmitted papillomavirus and adenovirus, also known as the common cold, in two male Neanderthals' DNA found in a Russian cave.
Previous theories suggested that Neanderthals may have gone extinct because of viruses and the latest study may be the first to provide evidence for this idea.
Now, the team hopes to synthesize the viruses and infect human cells in a lab to see how they compare to their modern-day counterparts.

Because recreating a virus that infects bones seems like a very poor idea.

The "common cold" is caused by one of several viruses:
rhinoviruses, RSVs, influenza A viruses, adenoviruses, and parainfluenza type 3 viruses. You can chase down their family status, but for sure it is neither Herpesviridae nor Papillomaviradae.

This sounds like something big pharma and govt control freaks would dream up-govt pays for gain-of-function research and release into the population while big pharma markets their latest un-tested but readily available vaxx to scare everyone into getting this new jab-never mind the side effects. The dinosaurs would probably be easier to manage by heavily secured viewing areas and limited contact, like other dangerous animals are managed in isolated wildlife parks, etc. We already saw that the pandemic virus du jour is not manageable once it is intentionally let loose-this lab in Brazil needs to have an untimely accident that obliterates it...
