As Catholic Bishops in the United States, we join with the Tyler Clementi Foundation in standing up for at-risk LGBT youth in our country.
As we see in the Gospels, Jesus Christ taught love, mercy and welcome for all people, especially for those who felt persecuted or marginalized in any way; and the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that LGBT people are to be treated with “respect, compassion and sensitivity.”
All people of goodwill should help, support, and defend LGBT youth; who attempt suicide at much higher rates than their straight counterparts; who are often homeless because of families who reject them; who are rejected, bullied and harassed; and who are the target of violent acts at alarming rates.
The Catholic Church values the God-given dignity of all human life and we take this opportunity to say to our LGBT friends, especially young people, that we stand with you and oppose any form of violence, bullying or harassment directed at you.
Most of all, know that God created you, God loves you and God is on your side,
Amen
I see no surprises here...
nor here....

At least they are now out in the open.
Cardinal Tobin is deliberately mischaracterizing what the Catechism says:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved. It is those who merely suffer from deep-seated homosexual tendencies that are to be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity; not those who deliberately and willfully choose to engage in homosexual acts, i.e. "LGTB people." Their actions under no circumstances can be approved. Rather, they are called to chastity. The cardinal is deliberately blurring the distinction between those who suffer from the temptation to sin and struggle against it, and those who willfully engage in it. The latter is a mortal sin and, if unrepented, leads to eternal damnation. Our love for them demands that we call them out of their sinful lifestyle; love for them, not hatred. This is the true teaching of the Catholic Church.2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
This is pitiful.. it’s unbelievable...
It’s described as an abomination in the Bible.. did they gain permission from heaven to rewrite God’s word?..
Is that denomination the spirit of antichrist spoken of in the bible!
How far wrong can one huge ‘church’ be!
Hate the sin; love the sinner.
Amen.
If I was a catholic, I would get out as fast as I could.
Some Bishops are repulsive, since some Bishops reject strong sources of Scripture and Tradition and accept the weak sources of Deception and Vice. And yes, every deception and vice are repulsive.
Fact: the same sex attraction is a temporary response to trauma. Proof: the cure of trauma leads to the deletion of same sex attraction.
no, esp when they try to convert children.
Absolutely.
Wow, bishops interested in gay youth. Now there’s a news flash.
I have become fond of telling people, truthfully:
I have a predisposition to anger. If we were to follow the model of the alphabet-soup people, I should not only be excused in my anger, but celebrated in it especially should I indulge in wanton violence. By that model, I should take pride in my anger. Let’s have a month dedicated to anger! Maybe a flag!
Instead, Christ calls me to submit my weaknesses to the Cross, to sacrifice the flesh to the Spirit, and to thus express those flaws as virtues.
>we call them out of their sinful lifestyle; love for them, not hatred. This is the true teaching of the Catholic Church.
This is the true teaching of the whole Christian faith, well expressed in its Catholic root. Come, Holy Spirit.
While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
But so we continue in sin?
God forbid.
So like Satan’s tactics, mix a little truth with the rest of the lies and continue to destroy lives.
SO! When will YOU stand up for the mountains of babies murdered every day? You charlatans make me sick! Preach to me you scum, after you let a baby get butchered... If you take the side of killing babies, you have NO GROUND UPON WICH to preach to me!
