This is a full reprint of a piece I published on January 20, 2017, the day that Donald Trump took office. The original title was “Trump Is Attuned To The Zeitgeist of Darkness and Despair; That Is The America He Spoke To, Not Us.” You may remember hearing Trump’s American Carnage speech that day, which was addressed to his America, the people living in fear, resentment and rage, whose zeitgeist he captured when he ran for office — but not to all Americans. It’s a custom for newly inaugurated presidents to speak inclusively, to one and all, to bring the nation together — at least it’s a gesture that is made. But not the day Donald Trump took office.
I’ll speak specifically of El Paso at the end of the piece. The mood of the nation today so resembles January 20, 2017 that I wanted to revisit that day and my thoughts at that time, before speaking of our latest American mass murder.
Trump’s inauguration speech was dark, militant, and paranoid, not surprisingly. Steve Bannon unquestionably authored it and one thing I’ll give to Steve Bannon is that he has his finger firmly on the pulse of the chaotic and despairing mindset of a great many Americans in 2017. Bannon understands the impotent rage and frustration which so many average Americans feel. They feel forgotten and passed over by a world that has left them behind and that’s why they voted for Donald Trump; to strike back at a society they feel abandoned them.
Months ago when it seemed evident that he would get the nomination, I saw Trump as a cult leader.

A lot of liberal babble, burble, brouhaha, balderdash, ballyhoo.
This is full of hate and loathing for conservatives.
People might wonder how socialism always ends up killing its citizens. Reading this, it’s not hard to understand.
They have zero new ideas.
These people are where the hate is coming from. It has been evident from the start. Do they really think we will accept anyone the elect? Do they think we won’t get back at them? I’m beginning to think they have done irreparable damage.
This idiot author states in the article that ‘...ACA is the greatest thing to happen in this country since sliced bread”.
Enough said for her credibility.

...which is why violence is assured. The Left DOES want us dead and has for some time.
Every time the Democrats start to get into trouble (Baltimore), out pops some young white guy to kill a bunch of people.
It’s just too coincidental.

El Paso was entirely predictable. In fact a couple of freepers did. The left had a bad several weeks - Mueller, the debates, a solid economy, the lies about conditions at the border collapsing... Yep, the left needed a distraction, and what a coincidence, here’s a distraction, that also supports their disarmament agenda.
Oddly enough, I think the use of zeitgeist (”spirit of the age” or “spirit of the times”), is only partially correct, that is, populist conservatism is the rising spirit while socialist internationalism is the decadent and reactionary spirit that is failing.
More appropriate for President Trump is volksgeist (”national spirit”), seen in his Make America Great Again slogan.
What a load of crpp
Darkness and despair are the result of our government and until Trump was elected would have continued. Whether he will be able to turn the nation back to the home of the brave and land of the free with so many in government and in the voter ranks against him makes the job more difficult. But unless he is re-elected many of us will see America become a second or third rate nation. Pray daily that this will not happen and America will be the worlds lighthouse.
You knew it was coming ...
And who has been living in darkness and despair since then?
Not patriotic, honest, hard working conservatives. They have good reasons to be happy for a change.
It is the left and the crooked Deep State loving Uniparty Republicans that have been in a constant state of rage since then.
Who commits murders, beats people and destroys property most often? People who are see things going the right way for the first time in years, or people full of rage?

When any event occurs that so closely fits a narrative collectivists are pushing, be suspicious.
Is ‘national spirit’ an accurate translation of ‘volksgeist’?
German nationalism and Nazism was all about the ‘Volk’.
