I'm not looking for pity, just in a dark place right now, son's getting over pnemonia. I've been ill on top of an already unknown mystery illness for years and after a decade long bout with Lyme Disease which I won. I'm one tough ba@#$rd to kill off. Not good to be this depressed so early in winter, going to be very long winter. I long for warmer weather but was never like this, used to love the winter, life just washes over me like a wave of late. I'll be back on my feet, but for now suffering is my path. Anybody else feel like this? This song really resonates with me lately ... I'm down, but I ain't out.

I won't be told anymore, That I've been brought down in this storm
And left so far out from the shore, That I can't find my way back, my way anymore

Suffering

Sunlight is the answer. I used to be a pretty depressive person till I started making a point of getting out in the sunlight as much as possible.

Pull those shades wide open and let the sunlight stream in.

Get yourself some Vitamin D3, (cholecalciferol). It replaces the D your body would normally get in the sunshine, and it helps with Seasonal Affective Disorder, which many people get in the winter.

I told my wife let's take Christmas off and take the kids and go to Florida and stay with your parents, it's wonderful there. I know a week at the beach would do it for me, I'm out of vacation but thinking about asking for time off without pay, I need to go that bad, it's just incredible that I feel like this in mid-December, I desperately need the sun, that is exactly it !!

Or move down here to Florida.

If the sun won’t do it the girls in bikinis just might.

Don’t tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is.

Hi, I feel your pain. Seriously though I have been depressed time to time myself. I hope you get better soon.

Your not the only one who gets depressed. I get it all the time but everyone says my life is so sad it depresses them too. So I have good reason to be depressed. A hundred probably.

I know that these days I live my life around being in the sun some every day. I built a porch/greenhouse this summer and was sitting out there in the sun with the dogs today. I even get irritated about having the shades closed at all during the day.

I spent almost 10 years in Seattle, very low cloud cover and nonstop rain, but now since we moved back home (our 7th year back) it’s breaking me, it must be old age.

I resolve to totally get tough, I made a promise to myself that no matter how bad things get, whether from this sickness or another, I will die on my feet, at home with my family. Not saying I’m dying or anything, but just had a friend that did and it got me to thinking, I don’t want to go like that.

Anyway, enough of this depressing talk of mine, I see others go through this around here and it helps just knowing that.

Thanks everyone ...

My grandmother came to the US when she was 2 years old, from Poland, but we have Irish in us as well, from “County Claire”, and ya, it’s a good thing I stopped drinking a decade ago, that’s a dangerous mix indeed.

Hang in there, brother.

If you are on this board, then you are aware that this country is at the brink of disaster, and you know that if it fails, the world will be cast into a global dark ages under tyranny.

There are many, including myself, who struggle with this every day.

Don’t discount that it may be affecting you profoundly.

But as others have said: 1. keep the faith, 2. pray, 3. get out in the sun if that’s what you need, 4. DO WHAT YOU ENJOY and 5. IF YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK FROM POLITICS/CURRENT EVENTS, DO SO!!! Listen to music you love, go places you love to go to, do fun things. Life’s too short to get caught up in darkness and strife.

By the way, I was in Seattle for 10 years, too. While I was ready to leave that leftist hellhole, coming back to the east coast was a bit of culture shock.

“...very low cloud cover and nonstop rain...”

After 12 years in Seattle one would think I’d be used to it. But I’m not! Can’t say I get real depressed over it - except when I’m coming back from Eastern Washington from a job. Driving in the high desert with the snowy mountains in the distance, clear blue sky and can see for miles. Start climbing the pass and see that ceiling of gray beyond to the west. Like crawling back under an old wool army blanket that is soaking wet.

Hang in there Scythian!

Well then, the way I see it you are distant from a land not so far in a your past on the one hand(Polish) and still suffering from the effects of being made distant in a land so dear to your heart.(Irish).

Just kidding and trying to add a levity to your passion for depression.  I knew many Polish and Czechoslovakians in the 80's.  Smiling one day, depressed the next.  Didn't blame them really.  I would have felt the same.

Anyway, try some jokes.  They look cultural but you can just as easily swap any culture into the punch line or subject.

And now a word from our sponsor.

Next time you have Chinese food and get those tasty little cookies with a fortune in them, do this:

Say whatever is on fortune and at the end say "In Bed".  Think about it and try a few.  Say the following out loud and at the end say "In Bed":

Our first and last love...is self love.... ____________

None of the secrets of success will work unless you do..... ____________

Today is a lucky day for those who remain cheerful and optimistic..... ____________

You were born with the skill to communicate with people easily..... ____________

The first step to better times is to imagine them..... ____________

Trust your intuition. The universe is guiding your life..... ____________

It doesn't matter. Who is without a flaw?.... ____________

Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life..... ____________

The secret of getting ahead is getting started..... ____________

Make two grins grow where there was only a grouch before. .... ____________

Did you say "in Bed" after each line?

And now the Bonus round for the side of you that wants to be Jewish,  Some actual jokes:

1. "I Was One of the Chosen People ('Til She Chose Somebody Else)"
2. "Stand by Your Mensch"
3. "I've Got My Foot On The Glass, Where Are You?"
4. "New Bottle of Whiskey, Same Old Testament"
5. "Honkey Tonk Nights on the Golan Heights"
6. "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Latkes"
7. "I Balanced Your Books, but You're Breaking My Heart"
8. "The Second Time She Said 'Shalom', I Knew She Meant 'Goodbye'"
9. "You're the Lox My Bagel's Been Missin'"
10."You've Been Talkin' Hebrew in Your Sleep Since that Rabbi Came to Town"
11."Mamas Don't Let Your Ungrateful Sons Grow Up to Be Cowboys (When They Could Very Easily Have Just Taken Over the Family Hardware Business that My Own Grandfather Broke His Back to Start and My Father Sweat Over for Years Which Apparently Doesn't Mean Anything Now That You're Turning Your Back on Such a Gift)"

And for the "Mc"Side:

Paddy and Mick go to London to donate sperm.
It was a disaster!
Paddy missed the tube and Mick came on the bus!

------------ --------- --------oOo- -----------

A Muslim was sitting next to Paddy on a plane.
Paddy ordered a whisky.
The stewardess asked the Muslim if he'd like a drink.
He replied in disgust "I'd rather be raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips!"
Paddy handed his drink back and said, "Me too, I didn't know we had a choice!"

------------ --------- --------oOo- --------- ---------

Paddy calls Easyjet to book a flight.
The operator asks "How many people are flying with you ?"
Paddy replies "I don't know! Its your plane!"

------------ --------- --------oOo- --------- --------- --------- -

Paddy and Murphy are working on a building site.
Paddy says to Murphy "I'm gonna have the day off, I'm gonna pre tend I'm mad!"
He climbs up the rafters , hangs upside down and shouts, "I'M A LIGHTBULB! I'M A LIGHTBULB!"
Murphy watches in amazement!
The Foreman shouts "Paddy you're mad, go home"
So he leaves the site.
Murphy starts packing his kit up to leave as well.
"Where the hell are you going?" asks the Foreman.
"I can't work in the friggin' dark!" says Murphy.

------------ --------- --------oOo- --------- ---------

Paddy takes his new wife to bed on their wedding night.
She undresses, lies on the bed spreadeagled and says, "You know what I want, don't you ?"
"Yeah," says Paddy. "The whole feckin' bed by the looks of it!"

------------ --------- --------oOo- ---------

Paddy, the Irish boyfriend of the woman whose head was found on Arbroath beach was asked to identify her.
A detective held up the head to which point Paddy said "I don't think that's her, she wasn't that tall!"

------------ --------- --------oOo- --------- ---------

Paddy and his wife are lying in bed and the neighbours' dog is barking like mad in the garden.
Paddy says "To hell with this!" and storms off.
He comes back upstairs 5 minutes later and his wife asks, "What did you do?"
Paddy replies "I've put the dog in our garden. Let's see how they like it!"

We used to go to Lake Chelan every August and stay for a long weekend and swim in the Lake (cold as it was). We spent a lot of time in the Ho Rainforest and the Lake Quinault Lodge over on the penninsula. We lived in Carnation out on 203 just north of Snoqualmie but south of Duvall, a great little town on the edge of the cascades and I worked in downtown Seattle for a decade, remeber the WTO riots, I was downtown and watching the smoke rise out my window as I was cranking code. We used to go to Rainier all the time, Paradise and the other side (can’t recall the name right now). Those were good times, but by the end of Feb/March each year I was ready to leave, then summer would hit (short as it was) and I would think “What am I crazy, this place is paradise” and sign up for another year ...

The enemy of our souls piles all he can get away with on us . . .

WE CAN BE OVERCOMERS BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB AND THE WORD OF OUR TESTIMONY . . . easier said than done sometimes.

One foot in front of the other . . . doggedly disciplining the mind to positive options, thoughts, images, music, Scriptures, His promises . . .

Doing some things for others . . .

No automatic fixes . . . no fool proof formulas . . .

The Grace of God and Persistence in Overcoming and in an overcoming attitude has halped me the most.
