Don't wait to hear from President Bush first.
Don't wait for detailed facts to emerge.
Just let your emotions run wild.
A full airing is required.
I am not afraid of facts are you?
On its face, the deal stinks, but I don't have the details.

"Wahabi militant into any Arab country guarding our port cities" Great now it's gone from a sale of a management company to a Wahabist guarding our port cities

Backroom deals and/or conspiracies notwithstanding, I think
W is showing the world we want to be business partners with new progressive Middle-Eastern emerging quasi-democracies.

And here I was thinking he was elected to do our bidding. My mistake. You elect a president to lead, not to follow the polls. That's Clintonian. You elect a President based on who speaks to your heart and mind the best. He says, "If elected, I am going to do this and this". If you and a majority of the voters agree, (s)he wins (electoral college notwithstanding) and their agenda goes forward.
You elect a Congress to "do your bidding"... to represent you as an equal branch of government.

I don't like the deal.
I don't like paranoid and uninformed bigots more.
Many here come across that way even when they are trying to explain good points.
I don't respond well to people acting all emotional.
I prefer facts.
People here are reacting with the same ignorance that they did after Alito's first vote.
This deal will not go through. I just could do without the ignorant rants.

Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard.'Doesn't it just warm your heart that Bush is using rank political correctness and implied charges of bigotry to defend his idiotic ports deal?

America should be ashamed of itself that we can't find Americans to do the job. Americans already do the job. I'm guessing that at least 99% of the employees at these port facilities are Americans.
The real question is whether or not American investors are willing to pony up $6.8 billion to buy P&O Ports. The answer is clearly "No," for any number of reasons.

"This whole notion that Dubai is going to control or set standards for U.S. ports is a canard ... is factually false," said Kim Petersen, head of SeaSecure, a U.S.-based maritime security company, and executive director of the Maritime Security Council, which represents 70 percent of the world's ocean shipping.

The deal has already gone through. Bush approved it. It's over.

Not exactly great information for an Arab muslim nation to have. Even if that were happening, which is near the zero end of the reality scale, moslem nations don't work coherently enough to get anywhere except when they have a king, and you can bet the king has at least one foot firmly planted on earth. There are no central authorities on earth for moslems, so they are given to independent action. Take a look.

Well, I do understand why you feel as you do. It was my first reaction as well. What I would like to see in my crystal ball is how much harm shutting out this UAE company from this deal will do on lots of levels, because there will surely be harm.
