ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
Our sailors consider Dubai one of their favorite ports. They do it ALL THE TIME, in their uniforms.
You're a joke. It's a valid list.
let them buy the Sundance channel then, and move the festival there. no one will say a word.
And you are taking your vacations in the UAE when?
Only if one considers Hamas and Hezbullah to be terrorist.

Okay, Sphincter, go on over. Slip away from the port area and mingle. Hit a few cities. Let us know how it goes.
Amazing. I read some of that right here on FR this very afternoon.
The condos there are selling faster than they can build them. Everything uber-modern, high security. It strikes me as a little weird. I don't believe I've seen/heard of anything like it before.
I would wager that the monied set is probably a little more open minded than areas frequented by those who are not in that class. The problem is, there will be a cross section of the overall populace, and I'm not as confident as some other people that wouldn't be problematic.
I don't think I need to do that to prove anything to you.
Why don't you tell us how many Americans have been killed in Dubai since you know it's so unsafe?
What does this have to do with DPW and all those Americans who work in management here in the United States?
It's going to be interesting to watch those names on the NO list move to the FOR list.
Have you missed the posts here calling for his impeachment?
My thoughts posted earlier....
Nobody but nobody has come forth with any legal reason as to why the UAE deal is criminal, wrong, unlawful, unethical or endangering the security of our nation.
The best I've heard is "there was a 9/11 hijacker from the UAE." Wow. What convincing evidence.
Now look, I'm as patriotic, as vigilante on defense and as strong an advocate of defending the country as we can. I think profiling passengers at airports (much like El Al does) is a great idea. I fully support the war in Iraq and I wish we'd whack Syria and Iran while we're at it. Then move on to North Korea. Any check of my posting history will prove it.
The brouhaha over the Dubai Ports deal is overblown in a big way. For goodness sake, they're buying out a BRITISH company and will be the profiteers over an already-thriving business. They're not firing every American worker on the docks and replacing them with turban-laden Talibanists!
Dubai has been operating ports in Western countries for years--and no one has ever brought forth any evidence the company is a terrorist front. Hell, what if the Dubai company relocated its HQ in Boston?? Would that make anyone feel better? They're capitalists trying to make a buck. I think they're a prime example of what the Middle East can become economically.
I know I might be in the minority here, but that's okay. I've yet to hear any credible evidence Dubai is evil; all I've heard is that they're from the middle east, therefore they're bad. Doesn't make sense to me.
Now, honestly, if anyone can show me evidence Dubai Ports Systems--or whatever the company's name is--is suspect, I'm willing to listen.
Although fiercely opposed to this deal, I do not pretend to have any grasp of the real merits. I oppose it because it is insane politics.
If congressional leaders swing around to W's postition -- which I extremely doubt -- then I would be a little chagrined.
But even in the most unlikely event of W squeaking out a victory, I will have no reason to apologize for assaulting his clueless, ham-handed management of this...his failure to quietly pursuade anyone but, instead, standing up abruptly in a Mexican standoff with his Republican leadership. THIS is what he saved his political capital and his veto for???
From November 2001:
"Francois Seznec, a former Gulf-based banker who lectures in Arabic politics and finance at Georgetown university in Washington DC, believes much of al-Qaeda's liquid funds will be held in such centres. "If you want to look for terrorist funds, you will have to look in the banks and money-changers of Dubai," he said.
US investigators believe about half the $500,000 that the hijackers spent on the September 11 plot was sent by Mustafa Ahmad, who is today regarded by investigators as bin Laden's finance chief, via Dubai money exchanges through Citibank in New York and on to Florida.
Such money transfers have given investigators their most solid link to bin Laden's al-Qaeda network. That they were all but undetectable until the terrorist attack reflects the skill with which al-Qaeda used international financial networks."
How much are you willing to bet its changed in 5 years? I'm not willing to bet anything.
Yeah. It's hard to not notice that you don't have any.
I don't think I need to prove anything to you... (nose in the air)...
Look, if want to claim that there's no danger in Dubai and other Emerates, be my guest. I'm not buying it.
I'm probably reacting so violently because I'm Jewish, and in my mind, they're the enemy...I can't help it. But as I've been listening and reading everything about this, it's probably not as horrible as it first sounded, and you have to admit, it did sound horrible.
Or has the hysteria and ignorance abated now that the FACTS have been revealed?
