Posted on 02/21/2006 12:32:20 PM PST by Brian Mosely

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

And, the amusing thing is, the old pro- camp for Miers is almost without exception the current pro- camp for this UAE deal.

I'm sure you don't have to be told this; but it is the same unthinking contingent of folks that are unconditionally pro-Bush no matter what the issue, no matter what the circumstances. They are like a study in non-critical thinking. I voted for Bush in the most recent election, only because the thought of having a socialist like Kerry in the White House was too much to bear. But at times like this, it seems like the choice between the two was a choice between being stabbed in the chest or being stabbed in the back.

Aren't you two courageous! You'll stand up to a country that poses no threat to you, but neither of you have the balls to disagree with me to my face.

Pansies.

would you allow the UAE to run operations at US nuclear power plants?

No. You got me -- this British company being sold to the UAE actually operates our nuclear plants, right?

Pretty pathetic straw man.

Owning our news sources would be advantageous for them. Hell, our alphabet media sounds more and more like al jezzera(spel) every day.

why can't they operate nuclear power plants, after all "the same americans would be working at the nuclear power plant after the acuqisition, as before". that's the argument the pro-UAE-port people want us to believe, so why isn't it the same for operating nuclear power plants?

I see no one has yet answered my simple question - would you allow the UAE to run operations at US nuclear power plants?

Is that something the UAE does? Are any nuclear plants outsourced to anybody?

You set up a strawman argument.

Not a longshoreman but in the Trucking industry for 24 years, and working out of ports since 1979, mostly in Florida. Relax, Abdul will not be keeping the gate open late at night to let the terrorists in, now you can get back to your "Die Hard" flicks.

What's really funny is that some U.S. citizens are ignorant of the fact that upwards of 60% of the citizens of Saudi Arabia, one of our best allies in the Middle-East litterally hate our gutts. Yes, the governments are friendly to a point, but that does not eliminate the danger of our people being exposed to their populace.

Iraq is a war zone. Our troops are heavily equiped to meet most circumstances. Do you honestly see no difference between dealing with people on their soil in a combat zone, and with them in our ports?

If this is wasted on you, why not just buy a ticket to Dubai, place a big sign around your neck saying you're an American citizen, then walk around some of the larger cities and see how long you last.

its a same analogy. if the logic behind letting the UAE take over port operations is "the same americans will be operating the ports as before", and it were also true with nuclear power plant operations, then why not let the UAE take that over too?

That's what people at DU have been saying all along -- Bush is really a traitor who wants to kill us all. Now you have proof they were right all along! He really DOES want to make NYC MORE vulnerable to terrorists! But, he won't actually stab you in the back -- he'll have a UAE company bring in terrorists with suitcase nukes to do his dirty work!! /du channeling off

The UAE rep refused to play a simple chess game with an Israeli eight years ago forfeiting a championship game.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

Is that the disqualifier in not allowing DPW to manage the ports?

It turns out that an anti-Israeli foundation run by the crown prince of Dubai owns the very deed to CAIR's headquarters located almost in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol. The foundation has held telethons to support families of Palestinian suicide bombers.
