ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

That ports are considered to be a potential target of Al Qaeda, via shipping containers, goes without question.

So why didn't DPW ship a container from one of the other locations it manages, loaded with a nuke, into New York when P&O was managing it?

Neither P&O nor DPW are responsible for security. That has been, and will continue to be, Chertoff's responsibility.

we can do plenty of "business" with the UAE. there are plenty of US companies for sale, across plenty of industries - they can buy those without objection.

I see no one has yet answered my simple question - would you allow the UAE to run operations at US nuclear power plants?

Oh no - the "exact" same people?! One argument could be that those for / against both were consistent smart / dumb. As I told you before, if this was something like Nuclear power Plants, I doubt CFIUS would approve that. Then you wouldn't have the "exact" same people.

I already answered that - NO. I am not aware of any foreign-owned Nuclear Power Plants in the U.S.

Timothy McVeigh was from the United States. I guess I shouldn't do business with any American companies, either.

What a brilliant argument. Now we know that no country is more likely than any other country to raise terrorists. I feel so much better now!!!

that's not the question - would you allow it to occur NOW, would you allow a US operator of nuclear power plants to sell the operating contracts to a state owned company in the UAE?

You see - I'm sure there are plenty of other example of Arab owned assets located in the U.S. - are we going after all those too?

Wow, that was like so deep. Cool man...

Just so we understand what we're talking about here, some terrorism does take place in the U.S. There's no denying it. For the most part I think you might agree that dissent in this nation is handled by protest and voting.

Please take a look at the Middle-East and see if you can tell any difference between the mindset over there, and the mindset here.

Do we have people here who would be perfectly happy to strap a nuke to themselves and take a strole through Manhattan? Generally speaking no. Can you say the same for hundreds if not thousands of people who've blown themselves to bits in Iraq the last few years?

17 of the 09/11 terrorists came from Saudi Arabia. The facts are that people in Saudi Arabia are more likely to dispise us than like us. That's the reality of it.

You have to ignore a whole hell of a lot to make a statement like you did, regarding McVeigh and our populace not being any different than the citizens of even some of the most moderate nations in the Middle-East.

The UAE rep refused to play a simple chess game with an Israeli eight years ago forfeiting a championship game.

If it were up to me I would have rounded up every foreign born Muslim in America after 9-11 and deported them.

The President's boast is an empty one. I'd like to see him explain to the American people how this deal benefits our national security. Yeah, I can understand the economic rationale for it and so forth and what's fascinating is the President is willing to veto a bill to preserve our relations with the UAE but not veto a single spending bill. After six years, the President has finally remembered the veto exists. Hallejujah!

Did you hear the guy who knows how ports operate pull Savage up short? How Savage suddenly turned, and said "Well, you make me feel better about this whole deal, but we should still have hearings."

The guy (I think his name was David) answered every objection Savage came up with. He said he and and his friends are laughing at how hysterical the politicos and know-nothings are about this.

There is nothing to this. NOTHING.

Well, no I didn't but Savage is comparing President Bush to "Howdy Doody" a while ago. There are times though I think my father is more accurate, he compared President Bush 2006 to the LBJ of 1966. Come to think of it, IIRC, LBJ started the special trade zone on the border iht Mexico in the 1960's so there are times I think the LBJ comparison is right. I'd rather see the ports nationalized than to have the UAE take them over.

Bush won't do the wrong thing just because ignorant people tell him to.

You wouldn't be referring to the "ignorant people" who ELECTED him , by chance?

What part of "NO" don't you understand - I doubt CFIUS would ever approve that, but if they did, I would be against such transfer. Same would go for selling Boeing or McDonald Douglas or General Dynamics Land Systems - any company division that builds military hardware.
