ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
I can't think of one. We're a bright bunch of folks. :-)
They are nothing without their power.
They are nothing without people to have power over..!!
Politicians are corrupt on both sides..no doubt about it..
Anymore would be saying to much,,,be sober,,I believe in the American People ,some are complacement, some not ...civil uprising,,won't happen...Taking our Country back,,Live Free or Die,sort of thing will.
Yep, and Carter (ex-President) is FOR it.
I won't lay this squarely on Bush's shoulders either but he is largely responsible. However I haven't forgotten that Bill Clinton handed control of the port of Long Beach to the Chinese and it's been nothing but trouble ever since.
Other than another 911 or worst I can't think of anything that scares me more than the dims regaining the senate!
Sam Alito was Bush's second choice. Harriet Miers was his first choice.
Bush doesn't win crap without we, the people. Ask Aunt Harriet.
-Dan
Miers was Bush's first SELECTION. Not his first choice.
Jimmy Carter supports the deal.
Aw geeze.
Air space? The U.S. operates a permanent military facility (Al Dhafra Air Base) just outside of Abu Dhabi.
You voted and got out of the way.
In what ways?
According to their website, SSA Marine, a US Company, controls two port terminals in Long Beach, so China likely has one of many shipping terminals.
Why don't you wait til the facts are in.
Welcome to FR.
Hey there Dane, ping to 1052...please let us know your thoughts.
I've been wondering the same thing, and I believe it must be this:
Rightly or wrongly, the President does not want to expand the War on Terror into a War on Islam.
Pulling this contract would take a symbolic step in that direction.
Yeah, I could have stated it more clearly, though the principle result is the same: nothing we own is being sold off, just that future decisions will be made in a different boardroom.
So that was all strategery, eh? Any idea what the plan is for handling the other current festering issue, porous borders/(illegal) immigration? Is there some winning strategy that we peasants will be told later? This Dubai ports issue may have taken the Cheney shooting accident from the headlines, but the immigration controversy is boiling over on a daily basis.
My initial reaction to this port was WTF? After looking a bit into it, this is a pretty complicated decision.
Much like when they didn't do all Arab all the time profiling at airports and W called in Muslims to the White House, I thought he made the wrong decision. I am willing to say I was wrong then, knowing that the decision to divide radical Islamofascists from the run of the mill Muslim who didn't like terrorism was not just a good one, it was a brilliant one.
We really don't want to make this war against all Muslims, that would be a disaster. You think we have problems now with the lefties in our country, just wait till we are at war with 1 billion people instead of a fraction of 1% of a billion.
I am waiting to hear the whole story, am willing to see if it's true that the security won't change and will still be run by us, am willing to see if the moderates can be peeled from the radicals. I was skeptical before, and I was wrong, I'm still skeptical, but have come to trust W on the WOT. He is not being dumb, not being ruled by money as the bashers so often charge, but wants this to be a succesful war that is won sooner than later.
I thought Rush's quote of Sun Tzu was appropriate. W has been dividing the radicals from the moderates very well so far, I have to believe that's what he's doing now.
