The Illegal Immigration Emergency: Would a Bill of Impeachment Wake-Up President Bush?
Human Events Online ^ | August 26, 2005 | Patrick Buchanan

Posted on 08/26/2005 9:35:38 AM PDT by hinterlander

On Aug. 12, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a state of emergency "due to a chaotic situation involving illegal alien smuggling and illegal drug shipments" on his southern border. Three days later, Gov. Janet Napolitano followed suit in Arizona.

Reason: the crisis on the border. The ally-ally-in-free immigration policy of George Bush and Vicente Fox, beloved of corporate America, has created a hell on our southern border.

Those Southwestern states are being inundated by illegal aliens trashing ranches, killing cattle, committing crimes and eating up tax dollars. The traffic in narcotics and human beings from Mexico is a national scandal and a human rights disgrace.

What is true of New Mexico and Arizona is true of our nation, which is now home to an estimated 10 million to 15 million aliens who have broken our laws and broken into our country. It is a mark of the cowardice of our . . .

So, if failure to uphold you oath of office is not a high crime and misdemeanor, what is?

If we are hit again and it is found that is was people who walked over border, I myself would favor impeachment.

It wouls send a message to all present anf future pols that there are consequences for inaction and pandering.

"Members of a border-watch group conducted an experiment this week: They snuck into the United States carrying a fake "weapon of mass destruction" and made it to a house in Sierra Vista without being caught, the group said.

The two members carrying a suitcase in a backpack crossed into Arizona west of Naco on Monday night. At one point, the two men crossed a border fence that separates the United States from Mexico, one member said"

"Another major terrorist attack within the US homeland perpetrated by some who entered illegally -- that would make Bush2's legacy lower than Clinton's, and the bill of Impeachment would probably succeed due to public demand."

That's assuming civil war doesn't break out as a result...

Although I'm not sure an impeachment attempt would actually succeed should there be another terrorist attack and they came through the wide open borders the calls for one are going to be mighty loud.

I believe it was Bill O'Reilly who said this past year that Bush would be impeached if another major terrorist attack occurred on American soil that could be traced to the chaos at the southern border.

Is it simply policy disagreements or the fact that he seems oblivious to adhering to his oath of office and stopping this invasion of reconquistas from Mexico?

An article or news report a few days ago said some 140,000 detained illegals were OTM (Other Than Mexican).

Some speculate that, for every 1 detained, at least 4 (or more) slip through. If that ratio is applied just to OTMs, that means some 560,000 OTMs may be slipping in.

Of those, many are diseased, many are drug dealers and mules, many are gang members. What assurances do we have that dozens, perhaps hundreds or even thousands, aren't dedicated jihadists planting themselves in cells for future actions?

A half-million OTMs, and they aren't all coming here to clean toilets at Holiday Inn or cut up chickens in a Tyson poultry plant.

If you take out the part about impeaching Bush, which is obvious hyperbole, I would agree with every word in the column.

And maybe a little hyperbole isn't such a bad thing at this point in time.

I don't think we would have civil war. I do think the public would be calling for GWB to be impeached and/or arrested if some terrorists walked over the border and committed a terrorist attack. A murder, rape, robbery, trespass, does not seem to do it for the public.

After 9/11 GWB should have made border control, immigration reform ,legal and illegal, much higher and stricter on his agenda.

His failure in this regard is obvious as it is being done to further his CFR loyalties.

Well...considering the "dogs of immigration hysteria" have been let out within this forum..any chance of rational objectivy I think has been canned.

So, yeah, let's mine the boder...throw government funds at a 3,000 mile 15 foot steel wall with automated gun turrets...cuz you know...every "democratic" republic needs one of them.

Honestly, I think the POTUS has taken hard look at the "illegal" immigration problem and seen a quandry...to directly, 100% solve it, (when speaking only of Mexico) he'd have to intervene in Mexico to end corruption and take away the root cause. Because, militarizing the border is just not the answer, folks...it's the true tipping point in a slippery slope nightmare.

W knows there's a problem...and he's looking for a rational solution, but that solution isnt going to be a militant one...and so he'll be criticized for doing "nothing" by some.

"Can we retroactively Jail Bill Clinton and Bush senior for ignoring the same problem?"

While I haven't done the research to say one way or another about the first President Bush, I can say that President Clinton actually did not ignore the issue. Look up Operation Hold The Line, and Operation Gatekeeper. Both were very successful efforts. Unfortunately, he never followed up with a comprehensive solution. That said, he certainly didn't ignore the problem. Give credit where credit's due.

You are delusional if you think GWB's plan is rational in any sense of the word.

I won't consider impeachment until an attack comes and is proven to be the result of lax border control.

At which time I would also advocate the charge of Treason and the death penalty - for Congress as well. Failure to protect the COUNTRY (not a particular politician or political party), especially in a time of war when the problem has been well-publicized and documented, is a gross dereliction of duty = treason.
