Confederacy of the determined - (Southern heritage buffs vow "Confederate History Month")
WASHINGTON TIMES.COM ^ | APRIL 24, 2005 | Christina Bellantoni

Posted on 04/24/2005 6:08:20 PM PDT by CHARLITE

Southern heritage buffs vow to use the Virginia gubernatorial election as a platform for designating April as Confederate History and Heritage Month.

The four candidates have differing views on the Confederacy, an issue that has been debated for years in the commonwealth.

"We're not just a few people making a lot of noise," said Brag Bowling, a spokesman for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the oldest hereditary organization for male descendents of Confederate soldiers. "This is not a racial thing; it is good for Virginia. We're going to keep pushing this until we get it."

Each candidate recently shared his thoughts on what Mr. Bowling called a "litmus test for all politicians." Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine would not support a Confederate History and Heritage Month. Former state Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore would support something that recognizes everyone who lived during the Civil War.

Sen. H. Russell Potts Jr. and Warrenton Mayor George B. Fitch would support a Confederate History and Heritage Month. Many past Virginia governors honored the Civil War or the Confederacy.

In 1990, former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, the nation's first black governor, a Democrat and a grandson of slaves, issued a proclamation praising both sides of the war and remembering "those who sacrificed in this great struggle."

Former Govs. George Allen and James S. Gilmore III, both Republicans, issued Confederate History Month proclamations. In 2000, Mr. Gilmore replaced that proclamation with one commemorating both sides of the Civil War -- a move that enraged the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Gov. Mark Warner, a Democrat, has refused to issue a gubernatorial decree on either side of the Civil War.

Mr. Kaine, another Democrat, would decline to issue a Confederate History and Heritage Month proclamation if he is elected governor, said his campaign spokeswoman, Delacey Skinner.

And how many Yankees died in the Confederate ones?

Where there even 50,000 total confederate prisoners held by the Union during the entire war? Anybody seen any figures on this? Most mass surrenders, like Donalson or Vicksburg, led to quick exchanges.

Davis ran unopposed, the ultimate rigged election.

IIRC this particular topic got started when Ftd identified the CSA as a proto-fascist state. The neo-reb rebuttal was that the confederate government was an elected one, not a selected one.

I am starting to conclude that the Confederacy was inclined toward a national socialist dictatorship , with the selection of the executive branch being one cornerstone and the failure to set up a Supreme court being another.

All of them ;o) President George Washington was also elected unanimously. For provisional President:
The Convention of the seceding States at Montgomery, on Saturday, 9th, elected a President and a Vice-President for the proposed Southern Confederacy, as follows:

For President—JEFFERSON DAVIS, of Mississippi.

For Vice-President--ALEX H. STEPHENS, of Georgia. The vote for these gentlemen was unanimous.
Harper's Weekly, 23 Feb 1861, p. 119, col. 2

Elected by the people of the states (information from American Memory website):
Today in History: November 6

Jefferson Davis Elected

Jefferson Davis

Voters loyal to the Confederate States of America went to the polls to elect their leaders on November 6, 1861. Running unopposed, provisional president Jefferson Davis was elected to a six-year term.

To call M.Espinola a racist and troll (since he is neither), is just another proof that you have no shame when it comes to misusing the English language.

The person in question had a history of posting to me and stand watie calling us "tonto' and/or 'chief', and he admits his racism toward Mexicans. Stating FACTS is not abusive.

Add to that a few more facts. The Davis regime seized private property without compensation throughout the war. They did this be demanding that blockade runners, the majority of which were privately owned, reserve a considerable percentage of their capacity for government cargo and by placing levies on local slave owners for labor as needed. The Davis regime instituted internal passes that were required by whites as well as blacks for any travel by train or for more than a few miles from a person's home. The Davis regime declared martial law in whole states and counties miles away from the fighting. It for all practical purposes nationalized salt, textile, and liquor industries by telling them what they could make, who they could sell to, and how much they could sell it for. All things considered, the Davis regime was far more a big, intrusive government operation than the Lincoln administration.

Davis ran unopposed, the ultimate rigged election.

Rigged? Post your proof.

Numerous elections are held where a candidate vies for office unopposed, there is nothing illegal about it. No person was prevented from running against Davis, and he certainly did not do as Lincoln did and have troops stationed at polling booths to ensure his victory.

He ran for office honourably and won.

Rigged? Post your proof.

What can be more certain than running unopposed?

No person was prevented from running against Davis, and he certainly did not do as Lincoln did and have troops stationed at polling booths to ensure his victory.

So you would have us believe.

So, a General was in control of the Trans-Mississippi!

In other words, there was no civilian government left.

So, the Confederacy had regressed into a military led gov't?

So, Lincoln was in effective control of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government!

In other words, there was no civilian government left.

So, the Union had regressed into a despot led gov't?

"You see, they didn't want slaves to start thinkin' 'bout freedom, even in Heaven." --Beverly Jones

This is demonic.

"All the slaves who had fallen short had to stand in line with their backs bare for their whippin'. Grandma said that often she was whipped until she could barely grunt." --W.P. Jacobs

And 'chief' ardently & brazenly supports this monstrous system of institutionalized plantation terrorism, along with his 'hero' 'leaders' which were intent on expanding this evil ...(?)

."but one day the marster says, "Si, you got to have a whoppin'," and my poppa says, "I never had a whoppin' and you cain't whop me." An' the marster says, "But I kin kill you," an' he shot my poppa down."<> 'til I fall to the floor nearly dead. He cut my back all to pieces, den dey rubs salt in de cuts for mo' punishment." --Jenny Proctor

"He cut my back all to pieces, den dey rubs salt in de cuts for mo' punishment.

Hell has waiting a very special place for those committing this kind of unrestrained animal like viciousness!

All those involved in the very disturbing slave testimonials should have been hunted down and tried after the Civil War with their brutalized victims as defendants. This is where 'Reconstruction' really screwed up royally. Some of those same savage killers picked up where they left off when federal troops were withdrawn far to quickly.

Islamic extremists even today maintain a slave system in their depraved part of the world, and most likely act in the same evil manner.

"He cut my back all to pieces, den dey rubs salt in de cuts for mo' punishment.

Identical to Hitler's or Stalin's slave labour camps!

Your CLAIM is that somehow President Davis or others illgally manipulated the election. Please provide PROOF of your specious, ludicrous claim.

"Indentured service is not slavery."

then why is "indentured servitude" illegal under the same laws as slavery?

"What does Romans have to do with slavery? "

Read it.

It addresses the reality of slavery of its time. It does NOT say anything along the lines of "even though it is wrong for one to be a slave/servant"

It calls for slaves/servants to be GOOD slaves/servants. And it does not provide that slavery be "just" for it to be recognized.

Slavery, in the Bible, is recognized as a fact of life. It is not directly assaulted (or even indirectly, no matter how you interpret it.)

"The fact is there is no moral justification for slavery, which is what the slave States attempted to develop."

No, the FACT is slavery existed prior to the South. They didn't develop it, and stopping it in the States sure as hell didn't strike it from history, nor current affairs.

Do you think any drug is "a sin"?

Getting addicted to it, yes. Then it becomes a subject of worship. Which is a sin.

Drinking, gambling, sex, drugs, loud music. None of these are "sins" unless used in excess. (some may have a lower qualifier for "excess", and sex should be performed only in a wedlock relationship)

Provide me with a statement in the Bible that tells me that drugs are a sin, and I will then know you are full of crap.

Wrong. I do not support slavery, practiced by you or anyone else. I support the legal and natural right of the states - who voluntarily joined the American union - to secede from that union. The Constitution EXPILICTLY reserves to the states all rights not delegated nor prohibited. In Federalist No. 83 Hamilton opined that Federal powers were ENUMERATED:

The plan of the convention declares that the power of Congress, or, in other words, of the NATIONAL LEGISLATURE, shall extend to certain enumerated cases. This specification of particulars evidently excludes all pretension to a general legislative authority, because an affirmative grant of special powers would be absurd, as well as useless, if a general authority was intended.
Again in No. 27 he writes,
It merits particular attention in this place, that the laws of the Confederacy, as to the ENUMERATED and LEGITIMATE objects of its jurisdiction, will become the SUPREME LAW of the land; to the observance of which all officers, legislative, executive, and judicial, in each State, will be bound by the sanctity of an oath. Thus the legislatures, courts, and magistrates, of the respective members, will be incorporated into the operations of the national government AS FAR AS ITS JUST AND CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY EXTENDS. [empahsis in original]
Again, please remember that you support the union which practiced LEGALIZED slavery since inception and after the war, and yankees that sailed to Africa to purchase slaves, and then threw millions overboard during the Middle Passages. Additionaly, the President you seem to worship supported an amendment guaranteeing PERMANENT slavery.

Yes, I speak of God, because He loved us despite our shortcomings, yankee and southerner alike.

pity that lincoln, the TYRANT, wasn't smart enough to let the south go in peace.

he could have saved a MILLION lives, which were NEEDLESSLY lost during the war.

from lincoln's perspective, the ONLY reason for prosecuting a war against the new dixie republic was for the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR & POLITICAL POWER.

absent those two BSAE motives, lincoln & his coven of thugs cared NOTHING for "preserving the union" or about the plight of the slaves.

i know that you (& several others of the unionist coven of lincoln worshipers) aren't smart enough to comprehend that SIMPLE truth. PITY.
