Southern heritage buffs vow to use the Virginia gubernatorial election as a platform for designating April as Confederate History and Heritage Month.
The four candidates have differing views on the Confederacy, an issue that has been debated for years in the commonwealth.
"We're not just a few people making a lot of noise," said Brag Bowling, a spokesman for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the oldest hereditary organization for male descendents of Confederate soldiers. "This is not a racial thing; it is good for Virginia. We're going to keep pushing this until we get it."
Each candidate recently shared his thoughts on what Mr. Bowling called a "litmus test for all politicians." Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine would not support a Confederate History and Heritage Month. Former state Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore would support something that recognizes everyone who lived during the Civil War.
Sen. H. Russell Potts Jr. and Warrenton Mayor George B. Fitch would support a Confederate History and Heritage Month. Many past Virginia governors honored the Civil War or the Confederacy.
In 1990, former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, the nation's first black governor, a Democrat and a grandson of slaves, issued a proclamation praising both sides of the war and remembering "those who sacrificed in this great struggle."
Former Govs. George Allen and James S. Gilmore III, both Republicans, issued Confederate History Month proclamations. In 2000, Mr. Gilmore replaced that proclamation with one commemorating both sides of the Civil War -- a move that enraged the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Gov. Mark Warner, a Democrat, has refused to issue a gubernatorial decree on either side of the Civil War.
Mr. Kaine, another Democrat, would decline to issue a Confederate History and Heritage Month proclamation if he is elected governor, said his campaign spokeswoman, Delacey Skinner.

Davis ran unopposed, the ultimate rigged election.
If they had won the war, it would have been one of their most praised.
After the war, a massive revision of history was undertaken to show that the South was the victim of Northern tyranny and was only defending the principles of 1776.
All accounts of the rejection of the Declaration's principles of mankinds essential equality were to be discounted as not really being what the Confederacy stood for or the Declaration itself did not stand for equality, a position that was pushed by the Democrats in 1850.
Either way, the Cornerstone speech is (along with the Confederate Constitution) the most honest revelation of the Confederacy's true foundation-slavery yesterday, slavery today and slavery forever.
Neither Lincoln nor Davis would fall under these categories.
If Lincoln is responsible for the deaths of CSA POW's, I guess that would make Davis responsible for the deaths of the Union ones?

Congress appropriates money. For virtually all the time that Texas was a state the Congress was dominated by southern representatives. If the government failed to send enough troops to Texas, either because they didn'y have them or didn't appropriate the money to ensure protection then weren't the southern leadership in Congress primarily to blame?
3. Refused to enforce the fugitive slave laws.
In what way did the Federal government refuse to enfore the Fugitive Slave Laws?
4. Allowed Abolitionist to stir up insurrections in the state.....
If Texas didn't want abolitionists stirring up insurrections, they wasn't it the duty of the stat authorities to prevent it? Slave revolt was a local issue, wasn't it?
Not as the Confederacy it wasn't.
That would be like saying that the Federal gov't had been disolved but there were still some federal agencies around.
So, a General was in control of the Trans-Mississippi!
In other words, there was no civilian government left.
So, the Confederacy had regressed into a military led gov't?

Well, did any civilian representives of the Confederacy surrender the Confederate Gov't or did it just disappear?

I was owned by Charles Mitchell until I was 15 years old. They were fairly nice to all of their slaves and they had several of us. I only got whipped once in the whole 15 years there. (That was because I was working in the garden with one of the owner's daughters and I pulled up something that she did not want pulled up, so she up and slapped me for it. I got so mad at her, I [chased her into the house] and of course I got whipped for that.) I did not even have to sleep in the cabins. I slept on a pallet in the bedrooms with old marse's children. I was a pet anywhere I worked, because I was always very neat and clean, and a good worker. The master of the house was better to us than the mistress. We didn't have to work very hard, because we was so young, I guess. We cut weeds along the fences, pulled weeds in the garden and helped the mistress with the hoeing. We had to feed the stock, sheep, hogs, and calves, because the young masters wouldn't do the work. In the evening we were made to knit a finger width and if we missed a stitch we would have to pull all the yarn out and do it over. The master's girls taught us to read and write. They had a bell for [the field hands] to go to work in the morning, a bell for them to get up by, and another one for noon, and another in the evening when they would knock off for dark. Sometimes at night I would have to go down to the quarters for her, and I would run every step of the way. On Sundays they would let us to go church up at Sassafras Stage, near Bethel. Was the fust church for niggers in these parts. Wasn' no white church; niggers built it an' they had a nigger preacher. My own Mammy, Mary, was the master's own daughter. Master told all the slave drivers to leave her alone and not whip her. This made the overseers jealous of her and caused trouble. John Sanders was one of the white overseers who treated her bad, and after I was born and got strong enough (I was a weakling for three-four years after birth), to do light chores he would whip me just for the fun of it. It was fun for him but not for me. I hoped to whip him when I grew up. That is the one thing I won't ever forget. Grandma said slaves had to pick so many pounds of cotton a day, and they were given an awful whippin' if they didn't get this amount. My grandma said she was small and just couldn't get her proper amount, but was jolly and always ran to get water for the other slaves when they wanted it. At the end of the day one of the men would tell another, "Give that little gal five pounds of cotton, She's all right." When they evened her up, she wouldn't get a beatin', but lots of time she would come up short and would have to take the whippin'. He cut my back all to pieces, den dey rubs salt in de cuts for mo' punishment. Lawd, Lawd, honey! Dem was awful days. When de ole marster come to de house he say, "What you beat dat nigger like dat for?" And the driver tells him why, and he say, "She can't work now for a week...." We are constantly told by the Paleo-Confederates how Lincoln was smart enough to be able to get the South to fire the first shot to start the war.
So if he was a dunce, then what does that make the Southerners?
As Lincoln said, alot of Southerners talk about how good the slaves have it, but none want to volunteer to become one.

Whether it was Lincoln OR Stanton, doesn't make a difference. If The Feds attempted to have Davis killed, they lost any & all moral high ground, and the Confederates were justified in doing what was done.
Apparently, you didn't read some of Lee's later writings.
He wasn't so happy with Reconstruction, and wished he had never surrendered.
