Hi, gang,
I was a regular contributor to the Kerry Online Forum and am now a regular contributor to the Common Ground Common Sense forum. I am a liberal, but I'll be the first to admit, I don't have all the answers. In fact, many of hte questions that matter to me probably matter to you too. I'm concerned with questions about how to tame power, whether governmental or corporate. I'm concern with the rule of law and how we can get the powerful to take it seriously. I'm concerned with the erosion of civil liberties. And yes, I am concerned about some things you may associate with liberalism--social safety nets and taking care of those who fall through the institutional cracks.
I'm here because I think agreement is overrated and that critics can be your best friends: they keep you from getting sloppy or careless. At any rate, I think there are things I can learn from you. I don't expect you are all agreed on anything--I expect there is a lot of diversity of opinion here. If you are interested in what I have said over at Common Ground Common Sense, I'm using the same handle both places, and you should feel free to come over and look around.
Anyway, I'm new here. Anybody care to give me a tour?
One word: Libertarianism.
You will find a lot of diverse opinion here, although some tend to attack posters more than others. In fact, you will probably get some strong comments against you on this board. Please ignore them. There are reasonable people posting on here that will be happy to have logical conservations with you. You may find that we agree on more issues than you think.
Additionally, I'm on of those people that believe you can attract more people with honey than vinegar. You and I may not agree on everything, but I promise I will be civil and respect your opinion, no matter how wrong I might think it to be.
Good question! Once tame they make terrible pets. :-)
Wow! an honest liberal! You can't Zot 'em if they aren't lyin' cheatin' or deceivin'. Let's engage the liberal and let him know that freepers are some of the nicest people in the world. First of all youll need to be deprogrammed. Some sodium penathol and a visit to the Reagan library will help.
Do you plan to respond to our replies or just pimpming the other site?
Just out of curiosity, what civil liberties have been eroded?
If you're on the up-and-up and not a "troll," welcome to FreeRepublic! If not, the "viking kitties" will be out en masse. LOL!
You'll find a lot of diversity of opinion at any rate. Enjoy!
Welcome to FR.
If you are truly here to learn, then you'll have to understand that we are very skeptical of your motives. If you are pure of motive, then you'll learn a lot.
So? What do you want to know?
Uh-oh. I have a feeling I know what "using the same handle in both places" means. If that means you use the same nic when you're over at the infamous DU, then the fact that you can stomach it means that you probably won't be able to handle FR.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Aside from the checks and balances system already in place in the Constitution, of course.
Start with a study of the Founding Fathers, the DOI and US Constitution. Then hang out and read some posts...
Personally, I like to keep a feeder full of downtrodden workers in my backyard and watch them as they come.
Well the EXIT is just over there on the right...
I keed, I keed...
Your post says you are concerned with the erosion of civil liberties yet none of yours have been eroded. What makes you think some will?
Provided that you offer respectful opinions, I suspect that you will be treated in kind. Again, welcome.

Where would you like to start? 8*)
It's not agreement that's overrated. It's diversity that's overrated. Diversity of opinion is overrated. I want everyone to think the same. I think everyone should hate liberals. I hate Clinton. I hate Kerry. I hate Islamofascists. And if you tolerate any of those, I'm not crazy about you.
What's your take on this... Republicans Outbreed Us, Democrats Fret

There's BS in the air! What a joke. No liberal worth his salt gives a damn about the rule of law. Liberals do everything they can to circumvent or subvert the rule of law. If our country were placed into the hands of a liberal government we would no longer be a nation of laws, we would be a nation of men. The law would only serve those that are deemed to be politically correct.
Agreed. I see no reason for a Zot here unless this goes off into one of the usual rants about the evil boooosh, etc.
