.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Subject: Men's Rules
Part continued from post #69
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work. Strong hints do not work. Obvious hints do not work. Just say it!
1. We dont remember dates. Mark birthdays and anniversaries on a calendar. Remind us frequently beforehand.
1. Most guys own three pairs of shoestops. What makes you think wed be any good at choosing which pair, out of thirty, would look good with your dress?
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. Thats what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
1. Check your oil! Please.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.
1. If you wont dress like the Victorias Secret girls, dont expect us to act like soap opera guys.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.
1. Let us ogle. We are going to look anyway; its genetic.
1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it donenot both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions, and neither do we.(most of the time)
1. The relationship is never going to be like it was the first two months we were going out. Get over it. And quit whining to your girlfriends.
1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. We are not mind readers and we never will be. Our lack of mind-reading ability is not proof of how little we care about you.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say nothing, we will act like nothings wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
1. Im in shape. ROUND is a shape.

After marrying a sweet young woman, a 90-year-old geezer told his doctor that they were expecting a baby.
"Let me tell you a story," said the doctor. "An absent-minded fellow went hunting, but instead of a gun, he picked up an umbrella. Suddenly a bear charged him. Pointing his umbrella at the bear, he shot and killed it on the spot."
"Impossible!" the geezer exclaimed. "Somebody else must have shot that bear."
"Exactly," replied the doctor.

Three Religious Truths
1. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
2. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.
3. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at Hooters.

Glory
By Joseph Allen Provencial
A light shines brightly, brighter than the stars.
A guiding light of righteousness, to inspire from afar.
Grace and truth bares upon Him and upon His name.
The name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus is His name.
Sent by God our Father, to guide and save us all.
A knight in shining armor, shining above us all.
Glorious is the kingdom, heaven is the name.
Glory to Jesus and the Holy Father, your kingdom shall always remain.
Thank you my loving Shepherd, for being there for me today.
Glory to Lord Jesus, Glory to thy name!
Wishing everyone a Blessed Sunday.

Berry Porridge
This really lifts plain old porridge.
Serves 4
Porridge oats - 50g (2 oz)
Milk - 450 ml (15 fl oz)
Single cream - 150 ml (5 fl oz)
Mixed berries - 225g (8 oz), e.g. raspberries and strawberries
Clear honey - 2 tbsp
Orange juice - 2 tbsp
Greek style yogurt - 150g (5 oz)
Whole berries - to decorate
METHOD
Place the oats and milk in a saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring constantly. Simmer for 3 minutes. Stir in the cream and leave to cool.
Purée the berries with the honey and orange juice, sieve to remove seeds. Stir most of the yogurt into the porridge with a third of the berry sauce and pour into individual serving dishes.
Pour the berry sauce over the porridge and decorate with the remaining yogurt and whole berries.
ENJOY!

Good morning, Miss Amy...thank you for pinging me to your Poetry and Potpourri thread...it's a great idea, and a pleasure, too.
I have a few favorite lnes that ring in my head each time I see your thread and read the rhymes...
...I need to seek them out so I can contribute to the potpourri.
It's cloudy, misty and gray where I am...may the sun be shining for you on this day of Blessings.

Solitary Walk
I gather up my jacket
Today I'm on my own
It's time to take a walk around
The place that I call home
The trees cast cooling shadows
I stop to linger on the path
I notice window boxes full
Of geraniums that last
I feel the past around me
Those souls who once walked here
Their stories and their very dreams
Seem close and very clear
My footsteps join the others
And one day I will find
Mine are echoing beyond this place
We measure out in time
Right now I soak the sun's bright rays
And I skip instead of walk
I know I'm feeling history
If only walls could talk!
