.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

My darling Richard makes us an oatmeal breakfast most every morning. He has been forgetting to add the whiskey.
Thanks....I will share your recipe with him.

Having a rough day at work, are ya? I have the perfect antidote. Read and reread post 29 here - what he said will lift your spirits immediately or my name isn't Dear Abby......... ;^) . Well, I'm not she. But your spirits WILL be lifted, I'll bet.
"Did You Really Try?" - thanks for sharing. Most of us have felt the frustration and sadness and...yes, anger...at losing someone in this manner. Your words express all of that so well.

Well, some are pretty dark and foreboding.
Door of the Night
Thrust through the Door of the Night
without e'en a candle for Light
A wanderer without a name
The usual suspects to blame
The daylight rejects me.
The twilight accepts me.
And everything is as it was..
Wandering under the Moon
can't even whistle a tune
Wandering on through the night
Wondering just what is right
The wisp lights despise me.
And shadows, they hide me
As jealousy gnawed at her mind.
Down to the forgotten graves.
The dead men, they peacefully lay
Waiting for the end of the Night
And for Someone to bring them some Light
silent, she finds me
sirens, they blind me
And another stone pokes from the ground
Out from the Door of the Night
Hidden from inner sight
Never had use for a name
Never had time for that game
Wanderings' over
Eternal Loner
And meaning has yet to be found.
(Actually, it was originally written as a song. But since I cannot write music and have no musical talent, the tune exists only in my head. [8-/)

Another one that started 'life' as a song.
Loosely written to teh pre-chorus and chorus of Stone Temple Pilot's song "Wonderful"
Unforeseen Ending
You know it'll never be the same.
Never be the way it was before-
I never had to tell you that.
I liked the way you let your hair fall down.
Now there's a need to beg forgiveness.
But certain things are better left undone.
And all I see, all I'll be-
why you wanted me?
Impossible? Impossible.
Have I waited here too long?
Must've meant to tell you.
Tell you that I liked the way you moved.
Now I sit here reflecting.
But I hate to sit here without.
So I try to buy absolution.
But your blood is still on my hands.
And all I see, All i'll ever be-
why you wanted me?
Impossible? Impossible.
Were you right here all along?

I like limericks! Good idea! In the meantime, what about this?
Such is life
I just dont get it; so whats the big deal
Why do people pretend not to be real
Hiding behind falsehoods and changing their name
Only to carry out some ignorant game
Dad use to tell me a long time ago
Stand up and be counted, you matter you know!
If you cant say it outright dont say it at all
Stand up young lady! Be honest! Be Tall!
Do you see that person smiling from the next room?
Pretending to be friendly while planning your doom!
This moment shes this one
next moment shes that
Striking from darkness like a sick rabid rat!
Two faces of evil one looking quite nice
While the other is hiding like nits of a lice
Eluding capture by lying and blame
Flinging arrows from lairs without any shame
They hide behind religion, claiming Gods love
They lurk in dark shadows like bats from above
Cowards who sign on with brand new i.d.s
They cultivate hatred from the devils own seeds
One thing I know about people like that
Their hearts have been eaten to the size of a gnat
Their brains are all musty with decay and mold
Theyre jealous, they envy, they fear being old!
They confront honest people with confusion and lust
They connive and steal and know nothing of trust
Spinelessly these verment never say what they think
Without anonymous handles like a little rat-fink
Oh well
..such is life.

We are all a mixture of the dark and the light. Thanks for sharing both sides with us. I remember writing things at night only to throw them away in the morning because everything seemed to change by then! Not really. We just tend to look at things differently in the still of the night, I think. I wish I had never thrown away any of my writing.
