.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

As part of their "ranch" holiday, a guy takes his wife hunting. When they reach their deer blinds, the guy says, "If you shoot a deer, be sure you don't let anybody else say he's the one who shot it. Otherwise, he'll take the deer from you. The deer belongs to whoever shoots it." The guy goes to his own blind.

Ten minutes later, he hears his wife shooting from her blind nearby. He rushes over and finds her pointing her rifle at a cowboy who's shouting,

"OK, lady, OK! You can have the deer! Just lemme get my saddle off it!"

Well, I would like to hear more. Thanks for sharing with us. When we listen, life becomes more clear and there is perspective. As I said earlier today in another post, it is always interesting to see how different people interpret the same circumstances. It is my opinion that we are all much more the same, than not. We just express it in different ways.

It's Louie's fault, he wanted cinnamon toast this morning.

I was gone for a few hours and come back to find sweets all over the place!

Are you changing the thread name to ' Amy's Bakery'? : )

That is so sad. I see people discard things that belonged to family members....things they had cherished....and I cringe. At least the book wasn´t in the garbage somewhere.

I have been working on a book that goes back into the 1800´s and is based on the lives of my two grandmothers who each raised three children on their own during the depression. Their stories were tragic in their own ways, but nonetheless tragic. I would like people to know about the women during those hard times who survived each day, spent summers sleeping on parkbenches so they could afford shelter in the winter. Winter shelter was often simple walls with no heat in the coldest part of the country. I see lazy people who whine and complain about not getting enough welfare and I wonder how people are expected to develop character when nothing is expected of them.

Hmmmm.....that came out of your comments about working on family history! Good for you! And I hope you write it all down in detail for future generations.
