.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Thanks for the intro my proud American friend. This is a great thread. Thanks for "pinging" me, I guess that is what you all call it around here. I'm still getting used to the format.
Since this is a poetry thread and I a poet, I suppose I should post something. Unfortunately, I have not the time to create a new composition for this occasion, so I will post one I composed as a commentary about how disconnected from each other we have become in society. I will follow it with one that should give you all some insight into who I am, at least if you pay attention... There are so many great poems and thoughts on this thread it is hard to find time to do them justice...
EXCUSES
Dont have time.
Dont care.
Its not my fault.
I didnt make this problem.
You can take care of it.
That is what I pay taxes for.
I dont have anything in common.
Theyre too old.
Theyre too young.
They wont like me.
I have the wrong color skin.
They do.
Im too tired.
They dont want my help.
Im not good enough to help.
Got to go eat.
I give to my church.
Their family should do it.
Its too cold.
No one ever helped me why should I?
Im not sure where to start.
Shes ugly.
Hes too fat.
They belong to another church.
They wont appreciate it anyway.
Theyre rich, they dont need it.
Theyre poor, they will just waste it like
everything else anyway.
EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES
Tired of excuses yet?
So am I.
YOURS
Please don't anyone think that is directed at you specifically. I don't know any of you well enough to know if you make excuses or not. It is just something to think about.
Fragile
A man? A boy? Who knows?
Wealthy? Not in any measurable way
Attractive? More than some, less than others
Gifted? This poem doesnt even rhyme
Intelligent? Moderately I suppose
Knowledgeable? About largely useless things
Worthy? Not more than any other
What do I have to offer?
From what riches can I give?
I have acquired little in the life that I have lived
I offer what I have
And hope that its enough
My soul, my heart, my love
This is my offer, this is my gift
Hold it with care, for if it came in a box
It would be marked
FRAGILE
Okay, I'm doen for now. Thanks for opening this thread up, Amy. :)

You are welcome.
I am pinging a friend who has been kind enough to alert me to some interesting threads in the past.
Mike, you might enjoy stopping by here, looks like a nice place to share some poetry and prose or a joke or two.

Thanks. I also love that graphic. The question about unicorns is more difficult to answer, however. Actually, I think it has to do with their graceful power and magical flight. Like the horse, it is a beautiful animal, imo. Has something to do with vision....mystical.....gentile; something that travels beyond the boundaries of the ordinary and challenges our senses to excel beyond those boundaries. Maybe? :)

Thanks. That poem came to me so fast, I had to pull my car off the road to write it all down.
It's the unfortunate eulogy for a relationship with a spectacular woman. When I first read it to her, she started crying and said, "What does it mean?" I told her it meant that she needed someone who would build her a temple in their heart and the best I could do was a pueblo - ironic and poignant for her since she LOVED New Mexico and all things associated therewith.
I think that poem really came from her. I'm just its voice.
