HONEST ABE DAY

His life was what America was all about. An average boy, born on this day in 1809 on a farm in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky, was able to become the 16th President of the United States. He studied hard, by the light of a fireplace, to become first, a lawyer, then a statesman. Abraham Lincoln, one of the most revered U.S. Presidents, served his country during one of the most turbulent times in its history. The term of his presidency (1861-1865) encompassed the Civil War between the States. His Emancipation Proclamation made on January 1, 1863 to free slaves; and his Gettysburg Address given on November 19, 1863 at the site of one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Civil War are still held high as classic statements of democratic beliefs and goals. President Lincoln was also responsible for one of the most popular holidays in the U.S.: Thanksgiving Day. He proclaimed that the last Thursday of November shall be observed as such. And so it was, and still is. Abraham Lincoln lived during tragic times and died a tragic death. While watching a performance of Our American Cousin at Washingtons Ford Theatre, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died a few hours later. Lincoln was the first U.S. President to be assassinated. Honest Abe earned his nickname when he was practicing law in Illinois. It was his unfailing honesty that made him known throughout the state. When convinced that his client was right, he could argue the case strongly. If not convinced, he was hardly powerful in his clients defense. Lincoln would persuade clients to settle out of court even though that meant he would receive a lesser fee. And, when this was not possible, he could argue a case equally as well before a judge or before an uneducated jury. To Abe Lincoln, being a lawyer or President meant seeking the truth for client or for country.

Good one.
I was going to send you a sweet, sentimental, schmaltzy greeting but I figured you'd think I was sick or something.;^)
So this is really the day, huh? You are in good company; Old Honest Abe today, and tomorrow, my #1 son turns 25.:)

Rumor from Greg Garrison, our local talk radio guy, who heard it from Bret Baier of Fox at the Pentagon this morning.
I haven't heard anything else, radio has gone to canned stuff, and I am turning to local news now to see what's up. Back in a sec.

Neets, I am afraid that the government knows more than they are telling us. I think they have solid information that we are going to get bombed and do not want to panic the nation. I also think that they have a time table of when. It is not like the govt. to be talking the way they are. This is serious. I too think it will go to top alert just real soon. Anyone want to bet there is not some profiling going on???? Better believe I would profile in a minute and I you can say I do now, see a arab in a car, I take the tag #, see two or more I write descriptions of them. We do have Ingals shipbuilding here on the coast, also Keesler AFB and a CB case, Stennis Space Center is only about 25 miles away, lots of high profile Casinos which stay packed. We have prime locations to hit.

Enjoy the rest of your special day babe!

Guess what I am doing. I am spreading some pine mulch around my roses, plants, and walkway. It is about 69 here this wonderful day, everyone is cheerful, smiling, me wearing shots and a short sleeve shirt. Going to Home Depot and get me two peach tress, two pear trees, 4 pecan trees and two fig trees to plant up on the farm.

...I don't want the government telling us anymore than they already anyway. Of course it'll cause mad panic..I am sick of hearing the Dems and their counterparts arguing that the government is not telling us everything they know. What is the purpose of security and intelligence if we know it all anyway.
We just need to keep alert/vigilient/ and safe as much as we can.

Thanks Jane.
Limbaugh played a Daschle tape criticizing the duct tape thing....HUGE distortion of what's being done. As Jane would say, you'd think a bolt of lightening would strike him!

Who is MurryMom? She joined Fr in '98 so she's no recent disruptor.

You are quite correct. The duct tape thing is how the Israelis (no slouches in security) have handled the threat of gas attacks for years, as Old Friend pointed out. I bought some and some plastic sheeting this fall.
Should it be required, we will adjourn to our master bedroom (with bath) seal the windows and the door, and camp out with the dog, cats, and our daughter.
I have a battery radio, snacks, water, and assorted items for comfort. We can live there for quite a while, and if a chemical attack happens we will be safe for the duration. This is not silliness, but is common sense.
The Rats are rapidly falling into the "evil" category, in my opinioin.
To: Mr. Mulliner
Recent disruptor?? No...but she is very pro-X42/Dem..I think they keep her around for the amusement factor.

MurryMom is a rabid Rat who is allowed to stay registered for comic relief. She loved Gore and hates Bush. In fact, she thinks we are all Pubbies who are clueless.
She is pretty easy to catch in contradictions. Whenever I run into her I usually manage to back her into a corner, whereupon she disappears. Ha!
To: Mr. Mulliner
I don't know how to answer this question without making it sound like I'm either going against the Catholic Church and the Pope or against America and President Bush.
But I'll just tell what I know of.
In my Fraturnity our Minister and Spiritual advisor along with a lot of others are against the US attacking Iraq. Nut ti give them credit, The history of the Fraciscan Order is that of anti-war.
Pope John Paul II is against it.
As a Secular Franciscan and a Catholic, I'm supposed to be in obediance with the Chuech and the Holy Father.
But, I and a few others in my fraturnity are staunch supporters of President Bush and agree that we should use force if need be to rid the world and the USA of Saddam's threats.
So you see the dillemma I'm in?

You are in the same dilemma as I am with the Methodists, my denomination. They have taken a very liberal, anti-war position and I am in disagreement.
However, as a Protestant I am not bound by a vow of obedience, so I simply quit attending my church and am actively searching for another. I may attend my son's Lutheran Church where it seems people have common sense.
The Methodists have been infiltrated by a bunch of radical leftists. John Wesley would be horrified.
