HONEST ABE DAY

http://www.netins.net/showcase/creative/lincoln.html His life was what America was all about. An average boy, born on this day in 1809 on a farm in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky, was able to become the 16th President of the United States.

He studied hard, by the light of a fireplace, to become first, a lawyer, then a statesman. Abraham Lincoln, one of the most revered U.S. Presidents, served his country during one of the most turbulent times in its history. The term of his presidency (1861-1865) encompassed the Civil War between the States. His Emancipation Proclamation made on January 1, 1863 to free slaves; and his Gettysburg Address given on November 19, 1863 at the site of one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Civil War are still held high as classic statements of democratic beliefs and goals.

President Lincoln was also responsible for one of the most popular holidays in the U.S.: Thanksgiving Day. He proclaimed that the last Thursday of November shall be observed as such. And so it was, and still is.

Abraham Lincoln lived during tragic times and died a tragic death. While watching a performance of Our American Cousin at Washington’s Ford Theatre, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died a few hours later. Lincoln was the first U.S. President to be assassinated.

‘Honest Abe’ earned his nickname when he was practicing law in Illinois. It was his unfailing honesty that made him known throughout the state. When convinced that his client was right, he could argue the case strongly. If not convinced, he was hardly powerful in his client’s defense. Lincoln would persuade clients to settle out of court even though that meant he would receive a lesser fee. And, when this was not possible, he could argue a case equally as well before a judge or before an uneducated jury. To Abe Lincoln, being a lawyer or President meant seeking the truth for client or for country.

Good morning, gale force winds here in Joisey too. This has been some kind of winter.

Am still fuming at her heinous ridiculing the idea of plastic sheeting and duct tape. The fact that the Israeli's use this method when a chemical attack is suspected means it's more important for her to attack, exploit, and add to the general unease than be a good American. Just too much to ask from any dem it would seem. They are contributing nothing but hatred to the situation.

Good morning, Molly. Daughter left for school with cell phone, two peanut butter sandwiches, an orange, and a jug of water for her coffee machine in her studio. She is under instructions to pay attention, check in with me, and take steps to leave ASAP if anything is suspicious.

Hubby is downtown today at a zoning meeting.

NOW, when I want to know the answer to the red alert question, the radio switches to Dr. Laura!!! AAAGH!

I was in our local ISP place last Friday and they were demonstrating satellite internet connections. Is that what you have? It was fast, but at $50 a month, I'm not going for it.

They had to replace my modem which was friend in a recent storm. They saved me over $40 by not putting in a Gateway modem, but now I get slower connections and my call waiting feature isn't working with this modem so I can't get phone calls while I'm online. I think I'll complain.

I've been lurking, yet absent as Mr. Jhenn had throid surgery. He's been quite sick, yet back to work now. He is back in the city and I'm missing him alot. He was home for a longer period of time.

Son went into AV school. Navy will take him to sea in 6 months. He got engaged at Christmas. Will pray he is safe.

Now for my request for all...Noa is 8 years old...she is the granddaughter of a very close friend in Denver. In the last 3 weeks their life has been turned upside down as she has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is having surgery on Feb 14th. May I ask for your prayers for this brave little soldier. I believe so much in the power of prayer.

Happy Birthday Bit may your day be filled with happiness and blessings..... :^)

No news. I will check at the top of the hour on local radio. Dr. Laura is canned so there will be no news while she is on.

I have Fox on as well. I will let you know if I hear anything.

This is very serious. We need to keep calm, have faith and a sharp eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

As soon as son is done with English we are off to the store for extra provisions. My husband had planned to start home today and found out he has to stay in NH a few more days.

Here's something I just posted. Peter Jennings doesn't deserve to have our military fight to protect his butt.
