Fourteen miles of white sandy beach and eighty five degree water.. I do miss it, but am so glad now for domestic travel.. It's bad enough traveling in country..

Question
My four-year-old asked, "Why are boogers sticky?" I really didn't know what to say...
Answer
No doubt your child is starting a brilliant scientific career with this question!
"Boogers" are made of mucus. Mucus is made by mucus membranes. Your body has mucus membranes in all sorts of places: The stomach, intestines, nose, lungs, eyes, mouth, and the urinary tract all contain mucus membranes that secrete mucus.
Mucus contains mostly water and mucin (during a sinus or lung infection, it also contains dead white blood cells that have been working on the infection -- see How Your Immune System Works for details). It is the mucin that makes it sticky.
Mucin is a branched polysaccharide. If you have read How Food Works, then you know about saccharides -- they are sugar chains. Starch, for example, is a polysaccharide. As you've probably noticed, if you mix corn starch or flour with water, you get a sticky substance. Mucin is doing the same thing. Mucus is essentially a thin paste made of mucin and water.
Show your four-year-old how corn starch and water is sticky (especially as it dries out) and he will be looking at synthetic boogers!
And now you know, the rest of the story.

I found a fantastic map of the Yucatan.. here:
http://www.elitecarentals.com/yucatan_mapa.htm
We never got that far south.. We got about 30 miles south of Tullum.. Our fav snorkling spot was at Akumal, north of Tullum..and all the places around that. We went west as far as Valladolid, and north to Rio Lagartos, Holbox, and San Fillipe, which doesn't show on the map.. Too small.. lol
The Blue Cenote we went to was north of Tullum.. Must be a different Blue Cenote, as it was on the west side of the highway..
We also of course stayed in Cozumal.. and Isla Mujares.. (Al loved Rosa's beach there. Topless donchano)
You know, we saw quite a few ruins, but never made it to Chichen-Itza.. It always seemed to be too hot to make the trip.. ;)
It sure was beautiful and remote down that way.. We went snorkling in a small inlet down there below Tullum and we were the only humans around. It was a little scary tho.. because there were giant rays bumping me in the shallow water, and other big things, and Al was quite aways from me on shore.. I panicked a little and worked my way back to the rocks.. 8-{

Boof says that although Osama can be very charming and even though he is hung like mule, Osama smells terrible and once tried to romance her with food stuck in his beard.
Damn lady give the motherfucker a break. Of course he smells and has food in his beard. He lives in a f*cking cave or didn't you notice?
Another superior link Captain - thanks
