We're trying to take New Year's week off, but I'm still not sure.Right now we're pretty busy, so I am not complaining in any event. ;-)

It doesn't seem possible that nearly a year has gone by since last Christmas Eve and all the merriment that we enjoyed then.

I THINK you were here - Mo was baking her reknowned cake, palo verde, andysandmikesmom, Christine, and lots of the old gang were having a large time of it while awaiting Santa and the birth of the baby Jesus that evening.

An eventful year for me: my best friend lived very successfully through a heart attack, two of his kids got married, my brother in law is evidently winning his battle against cancer, my father in law is now flying with the angels...all in all, a very emotional year here. Thank G*d for Xanax.

I was on FR, I know that, but I was home from FL for Christmas and my daughters wedding.

Yes, things have changed. Politics sometimes have a way of changing a lot of things. I hate to see it change relationships, but it does. Of course FR being a Politcal site, does make for political differences. Just look around here now. Things have changed quite a bit I'd say, even in everyday posts. People seem antsy, and all out for themselves. Everyone seems to be at cross-purposes..

I would love to see it change for the better, but sometimes you have to let things alone.. They may equal out in their own good time..but sometimes they never do.

Yes, you had a hard year. When you get older, and your friends and relatives get older too, there's of course more chance of it. It's sort of like checking the obits everyday to see if you're in there. (I don't do that yet of course, much too young yet.)

Here's hoping we allll have a better year next year. I know I could use one too.. The last couple have had their share of bad times also.

Keep your legs crossed, and hope for the best. ;)

I agree with your post, Gran. People change and move on. Sometimes we find that we do not agree with people we thought we once knew. Sometimes we find we do not know people as well as we thought we did, and find that we have nothing in common with them at all.

The only constant in life is change.

"I know that what goes up comes down. I didn't know you hit the ground." -Enuff Z'nuff- "Fly High Michelle"
"I know I'll live a life of could have beens until new life begins." -Enuff Z'nuff -"Fly High Michelle"

Karsh was a load of freight moving down the halls, it was either move out of the way or be walked over. Some people questioned the authority of Karsh to authorize preparing for battle. So he called everyone to the main courtyard behind the main gates. The orderly rows were forming up outside, he could see through the windows as he walked by them, his cloak snapping in the breeze he was creating by his pace. He was in a darkening mood. He didn't have time to deal with the troops questioning him without the Queen, and she was unable to perform her duties at the moment. He didn't have time to deal with both the Archon and Arselen at the same time. This was starting to look like one of those days. Rathe charged up with a question only to be stopped dead in his tracks by Karsh's upraised hand.

"Not now." it was a tone of command, and not to be disobeyed. Rathe looked down at the floor, his boots were grating on the floor stones. Karsh was dragging him along, slightly floating. Rathe went to say something, and Karsh looked at him. Rathe shut his mouth. Karsh's hand remained up in the air. Abilene drifted on through, saw Karsh, opened her mouth, saw Rathe, and shut her mouth. Her eyebrows shot up as she turned around.

"I need you. Outside." again, a tone of command.
"Okay." Abilene breathed as she turned BACK around and fell in line behind the sliding Rathe. Karsh turned a corner and made his way into the courtyard.

"Uh-oh." the Captain of Rangers said as he saw Rathe floating along, his arms crossed. The Captain turned around and addressed his men. He was staying out of this one. It was probably safer, he didn't want to end up as part of a floating parade. Karsh took up a position directly behind the Captain and turned to his right. Rathe orbited in the direction of the turn, his arms still crossed. Karsh dropped his arm, and Rathe's boots clicked on the stones of the courtyard. Ominously, Karsh's back was to the main gate, the troops felt certain that a heavy evil lurked just beyond. Karsh pointed at Abilene who had started to try to sneak away.

"I need you over here." he pointed to the other side of him so that she and Rathe would be flanking him. Then he spoke, slowly and pointedly to the massed troops. Once every few seconds, someone would try to sneak through the back of the assembly only to be pointed at an compelled to join the ranks.

"Five minutes ago, I was informed of an invasion force crossing the border. The scouts were over-run. That was a full twenty minutes ago. As all of you are well aware... we're only thirty minutes from the border the way the merchants figure it." and merchants were wont to go slow. As Karsh spoke, the gates started opening behind. The troops got their first real look at the coming enemy.
