Good morning everyone!
In national news, the President continues, much to the media's annoyance, his Crawford, Texas, vacation.
Bush says he's listening to differing voices on the Iraq question. [Presumably the media feels reassured about this...]
Baseball players have set Aug. 30 as strike day if significant progress with the team owners hasn't been achieved by then.
Locally, more rain yesterday for our parched area, and
a police officer, shot and killed in the line of duty, was buried with moving tributes and ceremony on Friday.

I cannot fathom why some think the US needs to have the help, support or approval of another country. We do not. We can, to put it baldly, do whatever we want to whomever we want.
CNN can go suck eggs.

And some of them are two-legged!
There are scattered houses and gardens through the ravine. Some of the people there work at the school and the others know me.
I do need to step firmly so the snakes will get out of my way. Otherwise, the major danger is falling down the very steep hills.

Carl Cameron on Fox just did a segment on KKT and her campaign problems. Conclusion of her advisors is that she is too nice. (HAR!) Showed a guy telling her "More Anne Richards, less Jimmy Carter."
Hahaha! Yes, use the Anne Richards model! She is governor of what state?

Time for school. Back later.
BTW, for those who have begun with us in the last year or so, this weekend edition is not a "new" style but rather reverting back to an older method. For a while we were generating about 600 replies in the weekend so we split to a Saturday and Sunday edition. Now, we're a bit smaller so we've gone back to the old way.
It's nice to have adults in charge.

I have just finished watching the most concise & informative video....
Don't flame me, but it was produced by Dan Rather, and if it hadn't been free, I sure wouldn't have bought it.
But my liberal sister-in-law taught highschool for 30 years, and one of her students did well, and went on to work for Simon & Schuster, and sends my s-i-l first-run books all the time.....before they've become public consumption.
This video is well represented.....well documented.....and Dan Rather is not seen much...(only open & closing of each segment briefly.
It's emotionally draining, but prolly one of the best chronicles of 9/11 I would hope to see.
My s-i-l told us to keep it, she doesn't have a DVD.
The disc came inside a book of 9/11....again the book was tastefully but accurately presented.

Just finished watching the first part of the 9/11 special on CNN. I am sure it will be rerun a couple of times this week. Dog thanks for reminding us.
There is footage of the White House staff evacuating, the President and staff going underground at Omaha, the President talking on the video connections to Cheney in DC....and lots of interviews. It is very good. Everyone should watch it...it makes you remember what we are fighting.

Miss Marple, I believe you have touched on a very dark period of history for the state of TEXAS.
We were still polite (stupid) enough to be careful of women. But, she single handedly educated the masses that their are _itches in the world and a grandmotherly look does not always disguise it.
She was packaged as a Will Rogers type for TEXAS. She was a hard drinking, loud mouthed, coarse _itch.
We rejoiced the end of her reign with a thorough washing of the Governor's mansion and a new resident: Mr. Bush!

I'm back down here. I'm learning to hate that drive. I won't be staying up too late tonight. I hope everyone had a wonderful day.

Did you know my dad grew up in the Rio Grande Valley? His parents and his aunt and uncle bought a ranch down there, and he always considered himself a Texan, even when they moved back to Indiana.
I have pictures of my grandmother in jodphurs and a sombrero in front of their ranch house, and also pictures of all the ranch ladies dressed up for their monthly luncheon. Those women would have been so appalled at coarse behavior!
Well, everywhere they go, the democrats can take credit for making trash part of the mainstream. What a legacy!

johnny,
I just showed my new Culinary Institute textbook to my sis and b-i-l. Now, he wants one for his birthday! ;^) He used to worked in several restaurant kitchens when he was younger. Take care of yourself this week!

Thanks for the encouragement about the Christian school. I'll be praying about it and letting the idea percolate in the next few days, see if anything else lines up with it or pushes the idea a little farther ahead.
Just said goodbye to a very dear Chinese friend and her mother, a 76-year-old woman who has been a Christian since she was a teenager, back before China's "liberation." She's a wonderful woman who serves in her local church. Two years ago I took a team of mostly Singaporeans to China and we spent 2 days with her and visited their church.
Today we spent most of the afternoon making Chinese dumplings (jiaozi), one of our favorite things to do and something we hadn't done in ages. I remember many times doing the same thing with these two women when we lived in China. It felt a little strange doing it in my mother's kitchen, though.
We did get onto politics a bit and I had a warm feeling when I heard our friend's views. She's a very solid conservative and said she's often criticized by her Chinese friends here who say she's become too American. She says, "I am an American!" I have very negative feelings about China's rising military power with no accompanying moral guidance. She feels exactly the same and is also concerned about it and even hopes for Taiwan to remain separate, something even the most open-minded Chinese wouldn't consider.

I'm glad he liked it. It is a cool book to have. Thanks for the thought. I'll do fine in the field. I know to empty the scorpions out of the boots before putting them on. LOL!
