In national news, the President continues, much to the media's annoyance, his Crawford, Texas, vacation.

Bush says he's listening to differing voices on the Iraq question. [Presumably the media feels reassured about this...]

Baseball players have set Aug. 30 as strike day if significant progress with the team owners hasn't been achieved by then.

Locally, more rain yesterday for our parched area, and

a police officer, shot and killed in the line of duty, was buried with moving tributes and ceremony on Friday.

Some guy named Nick Robertson has 60 tapes documenting terrorism training and plans...

Thanks for the heads-up, illstillbe. I haven't heard about this and don't understand exactly what's going on. Who is doing the terrorism training and how is CNN involved? How can I get more information?

Thanks again for the information. I appreciate Free Republic as a great news source. By the way, I think killing a policeman for a traffic stop is indefensible (if that's the thread you were referring to).

Did you go to that chinese place that is east of Biloxi down the highway near a state park? It's not on the highway which goes right next to the beach, but is on one which runs more parallel to it and appears to be used more by locals than by tourists? I forget the name of it, but if any of my description rings a bell, then, I'VE BEEN THERE!!!! I put this in the "small world category!"

It is, IMHO, the absolute best chinese restaurant I have ever patronized. Stuff yourself and think of me!

Well, you''ll never get me to go as far as to mention the *S* word but i want rain, lotz of it, cold, driving rain. WHEN it does rain I am going to go outside and stand in it..and jump in the puddles and act a fool.

You may wish for fall, but I am glad to back in eternal summer. I will say that in this house, if we don't use the AC the bedroom is just too hot for sleeping.

No matter, yesterday we just moved out to the upper room and it was nice and cool. The upper room is a room built over the cover between one of the outbuildings and the main house. It is screened on all four sides. The previous family treated it like a rec room. There was a breeze drifting through the night AND I SLEPT SEVEN HOURS. Perhaps my circadians are reset.

Those news reports are scary. ISB is spot-on with her questions. There are an awful lot of people who do not realize our survival is at stake. They are neither leading, nor following. They are in the way.

I am continually amazed that the media apparently thinks this is all one big game. Ratings more important than national security, "gotcha" more important than the truth, promoting KNOWN CRIMINALS such as Toricelli and HRC more important than giving people an alternative...

It felt super. It has a pretty view up there as I can see my whole garden. This new house has a big yard with lots of plantings. The back fence is at the point of a drop off into a ravine. The ravine has a creek running down through it and across the valley is the school.

It would take about twenty minutes to walk, plus having to wade through the stream. I intend to start walking to school, but not today.

It's a NY Times story about how Saddam gassed the Kurds in the 80's........and Reagan/Bush I knew about it and still supported him...
