Just goes to prove that in some schools it's just a numbers game. Sad.

*Prayers* to us ALL that we remain FOCUSED ... and simply exude patience, where appropriate, of course ... may we be *blessed* with insight ... fortitude ...

A few small miracles thrown in there would be nice ... comfort, solace and silly moments of simple *joy* ...

Lorena!!! I only now saw the *present* you left for me on Monday's thread!!! Thank you!! They truly look like my pups! *grins* Are your boys ready for another school year?!

Molly ... that music sounds so pretty ... I am humbled by the number of fine musicians we have here ... I've a wooden spoon and a stainless steel pot ... does that count?!?! HAR!

OneidaM ... I believe He is after telling you ... OUT! with the old ... IN! ... with the new ...

Ok ... I've the most wondrous dog tip which I have waited to mention until I was sure that it works ... this is useful for getting your dog to come, even when he may not want to ... even from a great distance ... it is also useful in getting him to stop doing something which is not appropriate ...

Get a metal key chain and put 5 keys on it ... 3 copper keys and 2 aluminum ... alternating them ... when jingled ... it makes a lovely tune which is very enticing to a dog's ears ... for he hears tones we can not when the keys collide.

Do not over use the key chain ... and try not to let him see it ... adding to the magic ... and ALWAYS reward GRANDLY ... with abounding *joy* each time pup returns to you ... maybe having a treat ready at hand ~~~ though I just praise and hug ...

Yesterday, while I was on errands, Louis and the guys came to mow the lawn ... one of them left the gate to the fence open . Old Soul knows how to open the back door ... when I returned ... both were gone! I've wooded areas about ... and I could not see them. I called ... to no avail ... I gathered my key chain and *jingled* the keys ... within a minute they came bounding out of the woods! Miss Marple ... this might work with Cassie!! Give it a try.

Jemian ... you're nearing the home stretch!

kayak ... *praying* that miracle cream proves to be exactly that ...

ABG ... missing you ...

Now that I have churned up enough bandwidth to last a week ... I am off to complete my toilette avoiding, yes, the profundity bug quite successfully ... as you can see ...

Chairman, traveling prayers for you. You've certainly earned a vacation!

SY- Your wife's concern is understandable - school adjustments can be so difficult...I sure hope and pray that everything settles down soon.

Everyone - I'll be starting the thread between 7 and 7:30 tomorrow and Friday, somewhat later on Sat. probably.

Riv - I was going to post that link about the RATS too, and my reaction was the same as yours!

That whole party is beyond pathetic....

What an intriguing tip, illstillbe! I will be trying it this weekend. I will have to go to the hardware store to get the proper key ratio, but it is worth a try, certainly! I will report on the results of the experiment.

Good Morning All...

Well, I guess I'll be here more today than I thought. sigh

I've made a reservation for today to take Mom to her favorite 'tea room' where the food is in small portions (that appeals to her) and the tearoom lady fusses over her & calls her 'sweet thang'...

...we were also going shopping.

Mom just called to cancel....says her back hurts & it must be about to rain, and she doesn't like rain....(she's always anxious to know where the umbrella is)

.....Well, I will stop by there tomorrow.....and check on them.
...I bought their favorite cereal, a couple boxes of sugar-free cookies, and a gallon of diet Arizona tea (Dad loves that!).....

..so tomorrow, after going to the doctor with Jenny, I'll stop by & take my basket of treats.----I'll have to pick up some chocolate for Mom too :)

Yesterday, I was busying around the house, and turned the TV on.....I think it was the Lifetime Movie Channel.

Well, the first 5 minutes of this movie, I turned it off & said to myself...."This is going to be too depressing!!"....I won't watch it!"

But 10 minutes later, I turned it back on, and it was one of the best movies I've ever seen!!!
...The acting was so real, sweet & honest.

It was probably one of Jason Robards last movies before he died. (The movie was made in 2000)

And it also has Sherry Stingfield in it (she was in ER for years)

Jason Robard is her aging father in the movie, and she leaves New York (& the high life) to come visit him, and realizes he needs a lot of attention.
She is the chosen child, the one who is the overachiever and her sister, who lives in the same town as the father, is the underachiever, but tries to come over once a week to help her Dad.

They also had a brother, who died in Viet Nam.

Oh, I cannot describe how well made this movie was!!!!!
Finely nuanced, gently acted.

I found myself sitting on the floor in front of the TV, crying my eyes out!!
It was a good, much needed cry.

The name of the movie is Coming Home.....

Last night we went to the first get together small group of our new church.

Last night was the kick-off supper, and it's going to be a sweet group to meet with every week.

Two young, 30 something couples, one single gal, and guy, two senior citizens, and my hubby & myself, plus some others who will be coming.

I'm looking forward to it.

Well, that's my day :)

I think I will get some sun this AM.....maybe.
We're still having LOTS of rain.

I'm also 'verdict watching' the TV in the Westerfield trial.

FWIW, I don't think he did it!!!

I shouldn't have said my wife was just worrying. She was praying, of course. It's hard to put our finger on the problem, but relationships have been harder coming in as the new kid. She's actually a very popular kid and has two "factions" competing for her, but she feels obligated to befriend another new girl who has problems of her own due to divorced parents. Our daughter is our "sure, mom!" kid and she's probably trying to please too many people or trying to make sure no one gets hurt.

With regard to school, she can do the work, but it seems to keep her too busy for her liking. She's a very creative person and loves to play outdoors so staying cooped up all day is torture to her.

And that brings up something my wife mentioned about the socialization of the classroom environment. The teacher tells the class, "If you're good, you can have recess." But if one kid misbehaves, they don't get recess, and that happens almost every day. So kids actually get the message that they might as well not act good because someone else is going to mess it up for them. My daughter is a well-behaved kid and yet she gets punished along with everyone else....every day.

Ok, folks. Some sincere apologies this morning and a mea culpa.

I overslept this morning, so I started the thread from home. I arrived at work over an hour late and am still trying to play catch up. I am afraid I'm not going to get to the Daily Update today.

My cause for oversleeping was my own fault - I forgot to set the trigger on the alarm. Oops.

AAAARGH! That recess/punishment thing is one of my pet bugaboos!! Very poor control on the part of the teacher, it seems to me!

Guenevere - And you were looking forward to that! That is too bad.

I got a movie from Blockbuster yesterday: Charlotte Gray with Cate Blanchett. Came out last winter to not so good reviews, but it's about an Englishwoman serving in the French Resistance, so I thought it was worth a look.

That's later....after I get some work done, which had better begin NOW!

Your children are going to a public school now, right?

As far as the Chinese boys, that was really kind of you to respond.

But look at it from the public school perspective (& I'm not a big public school fan)....

...Someone should have made the effort to bring these youngsters up to speed at some level, or find a tutor....

..it looks like they were just dumped into the school, and the teacher is expected to know what they want or need.

The boys are probably bright enough, that daily interaction with the students will encourage them to learn English.....

....but I am of the 'English only' crowd when it comes to schools.

I do agree that this is hard on the boys, and I'm mindful that they need help, but it's not the school's responsibility......it's the parents!

I hope that doesn't sound too harsh.

And pardon my nosiness, but did you not consider private schooling for your kids, especially after all the home schooling?
I know private schools can be expensive, but I think the adjustment would be easier, and it must really be a culture shock to see the 'worldly' attitude of these kids.
