I remember that basset pic...it was wonderful...I love basset legs....to me, those short, fat, stumpy, chunky leggies are divine....one of Helgas nicknames was 'Chunky' in honor of her fat legs...

All of our dogs, had their regular names, but they all had a variety of nicknames, and they all knew their nicknames and would answer to them....

I miss 'Chunky' or 'Chunks' for short...

I am also always troubled when teens commit suicide...its so hard for me to imagine why a teen would commit suicide, when they have their whole lives to look forward to....

Sometimes I think we send a wrong message to teens...so often, we tell them, that their teen years are the most wonderful years of their lives...they could be on the verge of deciding what career to pick, they are falling in love, they are in high school, with the activities that come with that, they are, like you say, finding an image of themselves...

But sometimes these things go wrong, and the teen becomes despondent, and then thinks that if he feels so miserable now, and if these years are supposed to be the best in his life, than he really has nothing to look forward to...

In true fact, for so many teens, those teen years are pure hell....maybe they are not popular, maybe they are having trouble with their studies, maybe they dont have many friends, maybe they just feel out of place...

In time, no doubt, those things will probably change, if they can just be patient and wait...but one thing a teen is not, is patient, and one thing they dont want to do, is wait...

Its a difficult time, for parents and teen alike...

Well, time for me to sign off..I have to go to the store tomorrow, and need to get up early, to beat the crowds...

BigDom has returned, with new brakes on the car...he and his buddy worked on their cars together...they are together all day, and certainly it would take much less time, going to an automotive garage..but garage prices are ridiculous...something like $60 an hour...so altho its much cheaper for the guys to work on their cars together, still they BS around so much while working, that it takes all day...but they had a good time, so what the heck...

So we are going to order a pizza, eat it, and then hit the hay...

And of course, Mr. Dizzy needs his snacks, and extra loving before we go to sleep....

See ya all tomorrow...

my heart goes out to teenagers
you are right
if they can just make it thru
things get better afterwards
junior high is hard
but after that can come hard problems too
being addicted, or pregnant, or about to be arrested for a crime
those things cause desperation
where they see no way out
but if they would hang on, around the next corner a solution can be found

the problem may have to do with image
you dont believe your real self is valuable
you think an image is
so you try to be an image
you could even hate your real self
it must be hard to be teenager

my mom said she chatted with her brother in Rochester NY this morning, and Gus said Rochester is having terrible heat
I guess you are getting that heat in Toronto too
funnily enuf Tucson cooled down today
our summer is long, lasts till week after halloween
and major heat lasts into September
but as andysmom said, I too felt the spirit of autumn today for first time

badjoe posted same thread on FR and LP and I lurked on both of them
the owner of LP has put all threads on this topic in attic
and wants to call it ''biker bar''
he is dismayed by brawling on his site
a poster showed up on a political thread at LP (''the third party'')
and chrissie said ''I remember you,
you defended palo on a political thread at FR''
he said ''I dont remember that thread, is palo the sweet gentle girl who would not harm a fly''
chrissie said ''that's her''
I was touched by his kindness to me
but went right back to biker bar to watch the brawling
Love, Palo

La Coruña

Among the numerous lighthouses that stand watch over Galicia's rough coastal waters, the most famous is the Torre de Hercules located on a lonely, rocky outcropping north of La Coruña. It's the oldest, continuously active lighthouse in the world. Constructed by the Romans in 2nd Century AD, its top had a platform with a larger circular steel plate. Shined to brilliant perfection, during the day the plate reflected the sun's rays and at night it reflected the flames from a fire. To fuel the fire a cartload of wood was pulled up daily by a pair of oxen along the great circular ramp that wrapped around the lighthouse's exterior

At the end of the 18th century, to protect the Roman structure, walls were constructed around the lighthouse giving it the altered neo-classic appearance that it has today.

The tower's fanciful legend suggests that Hercules constructed it on top of the cranium and weapons of his arch-enemy, the giant Gerion, who Hercules defeated after three days and three nights of uninterrupted battle. Gerion had raped Hercules' sister and fled the Mediterranean and the sibling's wrath. He believed he had found safety in this deserted coast at the edge of the world. After his victory, Hercules ordered the construction of a city which he named "Crunya" in honor of its first inhabitant which later became "La Coruña"......(On Foot in Spain)

As usual, your intrepid AC/e International Photo-journalist brings you all the latest action.

The Romans did not have very good good cameras and it cost
a fortune to rent the hot air balloon in those days.
