Don't forget that a couple of years ago the antis wanted to give the FDA the right to regulate tobacco. They failed that time but it is coming. As you may recall, the FDA immediately began calling cigarettes, nicotine delivery systems. It is hilarious in a way. A parody of Orwell's parody.

SheLion posted the FDA story on another message board we both frequent and one of the aspects of the FDA regulation would have to do with advertising and "misrepresentations" regarding tobacco. It will be interesting to see who will be the ones charged under that reg. The only ads on TV I see misrepresenting tobacco are those coming out of the anti-smoker camps.

Ah so! But the government toads have hoisted themselves on their own petard. They can no longer afford to eschew the revenues they reap from excessive taxation of tobacco products. This is a core tenet to liberalism. They make the dependent more dependent by providing their wherewithal to survive. It backfired on them this time around. Their choices are delicious. They can generate the revenue stream by studiously ignoring their own propaganda or they can turn their attention to other unhealthy lifestyle choices with deep pockets such as fast food restaurants. The tempest brewed in the teacup of tobacco will be a fury of a storm when they tinker with the Big Mac. I wait and anticipate with bemused excitement. The entertainment possibilities are endless.
