LOL...I might accidentally drown myself in that bucket of water, and how in the world would the hubby explain that to the police

"Now, officer, I was yakking at my wife, and she could not stand it, and she stuck her head in a bucket of water, and accidentally forgot to come up for air"...the officer would no doubt think I was a dunce, or the hubby killed me...

If he wasnt due to leave for work, I sure would have given him a beer to shut him up...that trick can work only on the weekends...

When we had out three dogs, Helga and Sheeba, never cared a bit if a loud 'discussion' broke out...they just took it with a grain of salt...But our male dog, Bully, a big guy, was scared of everything...even little arguments, made him run and hide and shiver and shake until all was calm again...

she lies flat froggie next to Bill no matter what is going on
but Happy runs and hides the instant aggravation gets into Bill's voice

I think Bassets just dont care about loud sounds and things like that...Helga was never bothered by any arguments, or fireworks, or cars backfiring or anything like that...Sheeba was 1/2 basset, and she was the same way, just like Helga

Bully was Sheebas son, so he was 1/4 basset...and he was the big baby....he was a great big dog, and I was always surprised about that..and he was so scared of everything..on the 4th of July, he would spend the whole night, sitting on top of me, for comfort

Sheeba, and Helga would be out in the back yard, hooting, and Aroohing, and bellowing, as if to say, "What the Heck is going on here...cut it out"...

Happy runs for refuge to his shelf and shakes if least little noise goes off
(Bill puts on the classical music to calm him down)
If it is firecracker Happy rushes under my desk
Lulu could care less bout thunder and firecrackers
if fact she retires at 8pm and snores all thru it

Those bassets must get their sleep, its almost as important as food...

And they sure do snore...I think that barrel chest of theirs, makes them really prone to snoring...Helga sounded like a truck sometimes...she would sleep so deep, it seems, and just snore away...it was so cute...

Bully used to shake a lot too, just like Happy...he would be sitting in my lap, and I would be hugging him to reassure him, and I could just feel him shivering and shaking the whole time...I felt so bad for him, he was so scared, especially here on the 4th of July...

Fireworks are legal here in Washington state, and a week before July 4th, all the fireworks stands set up, and all the kids have fireworks....those are the legal fireworks stands...

But if you want illegal fireworks like firecrackers, and bottle rockets, and quarter stix of dynamite, then people just go down to the Reservations for that stuff...

And people can set off the fireworks, from the first day that the fireworks stands open, which is the week before 4th of July, and they can legally set them all off until midnight of July 4th, which is also when the legal fireworks stands must shut down...

And then there are always those that save some of their fireworks for a few days after July 4th...of course, setting fireworks off, the day after July 4th, ,the police will take away your fireworks, but usually by the time the cops are called, the kids are long gone...

So in effect, we have two weeks of fireworks exploding...quite nerve racking for lots of dogs...

lol Lulu sleeps deep too with that loud snore
same in Tucson, they either buy the fireworks at reservation or down in mexico (it is only 60 miles to Nogalles)
last July 4th Bill prepared by shutting the windows in room where Happy goes under bed when he is scared
plus turning on the classical low on radio next to bed

I think its really touching the way Bill is always mindful of Happys nervous disposition, concerning loud noises, and is always trying to soothe him, especially with classical music...hes the only dog I know of who has such a special preference for music...Hes a lucky doggie, to have a daddy, who tries to make his life as smooth and comfy as possible...

Habs needs to conduct a moron investigation and see where we all stand...

however, here is my take on it...you and I are not 'morons' because at least we know how to spell that word correctly...

On lots of other threads, I notice people calling each other 'morons', but they all spell it wrong, and they all spell it the same way, but its wrong...they spell it 'moroon'....and thats just wrong...

So you and I are fine...we can spell...

the funniest is when Bill selects the old movies on TCM for Happy to enjoy at night
Happy has had Humphrey Bogart festival, dracula, and the 3 stooges
everyone else sleeps thru the night, only Happy stays up to watch the old movies
